    Good Camera

I like to use these for higher risk shots like vehicle mounts and stuff like that. Video quality is amazing. And the touch screen menu controls makes this very easy to use.

    Good Sony Handy Video Camera

I bought same Sony Handy Camera model one year ago and 2 years ago. Auto focus function was keep breaking by some reason. I have one year warranty this time so I hope I can keep more than 1 year without breaking. This product Auto Focus is working good now so far.

  • A rare camcorder in today's market it seems...

I'm writing this review w/o having spent hours actually taping video, but I can review what I've seen thusfar concerning the HC9. Firstly, it's one of the few 'prosumer' cams that allows external audio input, and secondly, from what I understand, the CCD it uses will no longer be offered in their consumer grade cams next year; rather, only in the true pro lines. I don't know, so don't quote me! That said, the features and build quality are great. I actually prefer tape, as it's reliable and archivable. If you don't like tape, don't buy this one. Sadly, you can't record video to the mem stick, only stills. Otherwise, it's light, sturdy and easy to use.

  • Backing Up a Mission-

This was purchased as a backup for the previous model (Sony HDR/HC7) which I am using in an underwater housing. That camcorder, only 2 years old, is 2 generations retired, and the new-to-me HC9 is also now retired. But the housing, a pricey item, is only compatible with these two cameras. By using eBay I can stay a little ahead of the accelerated planned-obsolescence cycle of the U/W video gear industry. I'm not good enough to need the very latest every year or two! It is also a reasonably compact, fun camcorder to shoot on land, and easy to use. I was able to get great soccer footage of my grandkids first time out ever shooting video, without even reading the manual! Check out my You Tube channel, "Sharronsuss," for some of my earliest videos.

  • Sony's last camcorder to use tapes & a firewire also uses a USB 2 if needed

This my second HDR-HC9. I bought it as a back up for my first one, which I've had for about a year. My first Sony HDR was a HDR-HC3, which, after about 9 years of great service, gave up and quit on me. The HDR-HC9 is very similar to operate as the HC3 but it is slightly smaller and has the unique feature of downloading to a computer with either a firewire ieee-1394 for the older computers or a USB2 for the newer computers, which no longer accept firewires. HD picture quality is excellent. It is the latest model of a Sony which uses a firewire. If you are using a computer which requires a firewire to download video, I highly recommend this camcorder.
