I bought these new in 2002, it served me well. I t still works with the exception of the LCD. I recently purchased a replacement that was auctioned off, mainly to be able to maintain the miniDV tapes that I recorded with this one. The 0 lux night vision is a plus also. Overall it was a bargain then, and at the prices they can be acquired for now, they still are.
This camera works wonderfully for anyone who just wants to film sporting events or family gatherings or novice movies. The digital zoom is great, but the sound does get annoying if it is windy out. Also if you are filming on a sunny day in the snow, it is hard to see much. It is easy to use and there are many features for what I paid for it.
The Sharp Viewcam VL-WD450U is my first camcorder. The features on it are extremely easy to use and the Super Cat's Eye is a really neat function. If you are not a professional and are just looking for a great deal on a Camcorder to take production quality home movies then this is probably as good as they come.
Hello People, Well this camcorder to me is great for two things 1) You can use it for X-ray vision and 2)it does very well outside during the day time and of course you have the Super Cat`s Eye for dark places even complete darkness which I think is neat BUT this camcorder isn`t worth a crap for filming inside I have tried every setting on this thing to get a good indoor picture and this camcorder just doesn`t perform well inside and if you use the Gamma feature to brighten the picture it distorts and the colors are off so it depends on what you want this camera for if you want night vision and X-ray vision this is the camcorder for you If you want to record Jr.`s Birthday party at grandma`s this isn`t the camcorder for you.
This was my second Sharp Viewcam VL-WD450U. When the first one died, I was surprised that Sharp apparently no longer makes view cams. For home videos this camera is perfect. Most of the controls are external; the auto exposure, white balance, and audio are accurate; and it hand-holds easily or mounts on a tripod. As long as mini-dv tapes are available, this camera for the price is a winner in my book.
