I do believe its high time that a quality review is written about this, highly unrated but successful and Now "super rare" game. When i first heard about this game i was in my local game crazy, already played the 1 ZOE I seen it laying on the shelf not knowing what i was looking at because like most underground and secret titles it never got the much deserved hype or commercial attention that it needed to make it a well known game. At that time i asked the salesman what he thought of Zoe 2, the second runner and he replied it was a well rounded smash hit/sleeper title, by sleeper title I mean no one expected it to be as good as it is and only a few knew about it. I purchased myself a copy and played for relentless hours, unlocking everything and anything, Than i played again and again, till i was about to beat the title in less than one day, a 24 hour period, to get specific it was a little over 6 and a half hours, if you listen and pay attention to the story it will take about 8-9 hours give or take, maybe less.. But this shows you how much dang fun this game is, the replay value of this game is very very good, you or a friend can have hours of fun playing this in depth and very rare game, that is if your lucky enough to find a "NEW" black label copy of the game for under 100 US Dollars! Konami never made the title a greatest hits, so every copy is black label, but it is extremly hard to find a new un opened copy and new copies are becoming extinct every day.. Buying used is another option but normally you will most like, always get a scratched copy without box art and the manual, if you do get lucky and find a good copy.. cherish it... mount it, frame it and love it, play it everyday, as it is "THE MECH ACTION TITLE OF THE GODZ" GAMEPLAY: 10.0 - This game delivers, it has fast, intense un relenting speed and action that makes all other games in it's genre fail in comparison, you will play this game till your thumb bleeds. GRAPHICS: 10.00 - This game has some of the brightest and most stunning visuals ever to be seen on the ps2 console, as your destroying over a 100 enemies on screen all at once you can't help but feel powerful as your mech obliterates every enemy right before your eyes in a red, yellow and blue force of envy and power! STORY: 9.5 - This game has a very in depth story line that has some of the best actors voicing over the characters, and with producer Hideo Kojima behind the wheel would you expect anything less? After all he made and founded the metal gear franchise. You, the player can't help but be pulled into dingos (main character) world as you fight along side of hot chicks alike and evil villains. Over all this game has it all, the only gripe I have is always wanting more, like anyone else that played this superb piece of art they, we want more, it was a bit to short, but what it lacks in time it surely makes up in gameplay!!! The unlocks are very rewarding so your surely going to have your handful playing it a few times or.. lots more. Cheers! Now try hard and go find yourself a copy! HOO-RAH!Read full review
This game is a must play for all fans of the ZOE franchise! To all others, it may not be worth the effort to find as it is very rare. Anyway, here's the rundown: Graphics: Very nice for a PS2 game, with cel-shaded models popping off the screen and great anime style cut sequences. There is a little bit of slowdown, but it doesn't take anything away from the experience! Sound: The music is pretty cool, but nothing you haven't heard before from a mech game. J-Pop and techno reign supreme here, and it helps build the atmosphere of the game. Gameplay: The fights are where this game really shines. The combat really gets intense when you find yourself surrounded by multiple foes. Fans of the original game beware, however, as the game is a lot harder than the first! Controls: Very easy to learn for how much there is to do! The game pauses itself when you are selecting your secondary weapon, which helps you fight more strategically. Story: Nothing mind boggling, but the story is entertaining for those who have played the first game, with continued ties between Ada and the pilot of the Vic Viper. The cast of characters is varied an unique, albeit not fully developed. Longevity: With bonus missions, this game can last a hardcore gamer for a decent amount of time. Personally, I got so caught up with the single player campaign that it didn't last me very long. Fortunately, the extra missions and 2 player versus mode make up for the short campaign mode. This game would've received a perfect score, but, like the first one, the single player experience is just too short. I can't wait for the third installment (if there is going to be one)! Pros: - Great Cel Shaded Art Style - Polished Combat - Decent Characters and Voice Acting Cons: - Too Short - Occasional Performance Hiccups Final Score: 4/5Read full review
This overall one of the best game i ever played, why you might ask? Great story, strong emotions, great soundtrack, great fighting. Every element in this game makes it great. There are alot of things i can say about this game the graphic's are very impressive and i find it strange that the ps2 can actually handle the graphics but it can be a hiccup in the frame-rate if alot of enemies are on the screen but overall. If your looking for a good game get this game. If you want to get deeper into the gameplay play the first Zone of the Enders first. Highly recommended!!
This is by far one of the best games ever made for the PS2. The series itself is one of the best I've ever played, and I sincerely wish they they would make more. From a story that will leave you wanting more, to gameplay that can at times get so fast you'll be tripping over your own fingers trying to keep up, Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner has something that everyone can enjoy. The gameplay varies from parts that are easy to figure out and complete, to parts that are so hard that you feel like you might tear your hair out. The game capitalizes on every shortcoming the first game had and then some. The graphics are amazing, the combat is fast and flawless, and the weapons will leave you feeling like you could take on the universe. As an added bonus, the game features a "previous story" option which lets you view all of the main story points from the previous game and then start a new game knowing what went on, and why you're fighting. There are also loads of features in the game such as extra missions that you can unlock by finding them scattered throughout the sometimes hazardous environments. The game can feel repetitive at times, but you'll have a tough time noticing it while you're busy blasting your enemies with your assortment of weapons. The game has a new game+ option that lets you load a cleared save file and lets you start a new game with the option of playing as one of the four versions of the player character "Jehuty." Throughout the game, you can even find extra "VS Mech" characters that allow you to play as said character in VS Mode. Each time you replay the story, you'll get better at moving around and fighting, eventually finding hidden methods of attack and even hidden areas and shortcuts. If you start a new game+ with all your previous weapons, a new one is added. This weapon is a heavy shield that can let you block otherwise unblockable attacks! You can complete the game in roughly 5-7 hours, but don't let that short of time fool you. There are loads of extra missions to unlock that unless you're reading a guide on the internet, or have a hard copy of a guide, will take you multiple playthoughs of the game to unlock. I've played through almost 9 times now, and I'm still missing a good chunk of them. The enemies range from small, pathetic weaklings to enemies so large that it feels like you're fighting the entire world. All of this leading up to a final showdown that will leave you satisfied and wanting to replay the game just to see how fast you can beat it. As an extra bonus, when you select which form to play as during the new game+ option, you start at that same power level that form had when you used it. Be warned however, as some forms make the game exponentially more difficult at parts. The best example of this is in a boss fight that I'd like to say is about mid-game. If you thought it was hard on easy, prepare to buy a few wigs. The boss from this fight has 2 health bars, one you want to deplete, and the other you don't. Depleting the wrong ones results in a game over, and the final form of "Jehuty" will deplete the bar we will refer to as the "game over bar" in ONE OR TWO HITS! Loads of fun, painfully difficult even when playing on easy, and ORIGINAL ANIME CUTSCENES!!! Everything about this game is worth mentioning, and ranting about for a few hours. I personally don't know why I never bought the series sooner. WORTH EVERY PENNY! I give it 10 stars! A complete gaming masterpiece!Read full review
Zone Of The Enders (The 2nd Runner) Producer Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear series)has done it agin this game is one of the best mech games ever made. It's fast, epic, and quick thinking game play is spectacular. It very eye catching and to me just as good in plot, story and character depth as Metal Gear series To bad though that this is not as popular. American audience can see war games more conceivable that the more powerful fast pace anime style games. But hey if ur a real gamer that loves not only the action but the fact that you have to think not just destroy everything get a copy it hot...Oh don't forget to get the 1st Z.O.E too!
