The original volume was the seminal work in the area of media manipulation by the advertiser utilizing mass media. Vance Packard was the first general distribution writer to illustrate and expose the Madison Avenue research and manipulation of advertisers' message, Brand Development and images that where being used in the early days of broadcast television The author does a excellent job of describing in plain English the new technology, largely media research and mass psychology, being utilized to persuade, intice, and seduce the Mrs.Cleaver baby boomer mothers and and their families to purchase specific brands.
