Will Ferrell combines his Spanish speaking ability with drama, death, love, AND FERRELL's COMEDY!. ALL the Spanish is easy to understand and you can add the English subtitles. MY favorite little dialog, between Will Ferrell (Armando) and the beautiful, Miss Lopez: I have not found the woman for me. What would this woman be like? My woman, Miss Lopez, must love the land as I do. More than all the gold in the world, she must find pleasure in the scent of the cactus flower. She would sleep beneath the stars and let the wild west wind caress her body and blanket her soul. Her passions would be my passions, her dreams, my dreams. And our love would be a great song, and the song would be true. Armando is a ridiculously hopeless romantic! Not Great.
Die hard Will Ferrell fan, since his early days on SNL, it's hard to admit when his comedy falls flat. But Casa De Me Padre wasn't written for American audiences so it's not suprising it flopped in the USA. The premise of making a Mexican Tella Novella parody would have worked well as a 5 minute SNL sketch, in fact they have done this several times, but when stretched out into a full length film the jokes get old fast. Unless you are a die hard Spanish Soap opera junkie, most of the cute references fall short of comedy, and the cutting point of the parody is ineffective. I live in France and this film comes from US because not available here . I loved it because it's a very odd & funny movie , such as some of other film in where we can find Diego Luna. Not a masterpiece , and not pretentious , you have a very good time with it . Half theater / half movie , delicious humor , very good actors like caricatures , and you feel like in a cartoon . A small paradoxical , because by laughing , you attent to some sad situations of Mexico . This is the strenght of this movie . This movie deserves good criticism , and it deserves to be seen in every country . Unfortunately , with such improbable project and film , it isn't the case .
