These boards are great to build powerful computers. The CPUs and ram are not expensive and I have found the board/BIOS compatible with Linux and Windows. The higher speed CPUs will use about 95W EACH so these boards can use a lot of power.

Took a gamble on using this board for a CAD workstation and so far its working pretty well. Windows 10 runs stable, with only a LAN driver needed. Added Nvidia 980ti and dual usb 3.1 cards work great. Quirks: Twice now its switched from using the 980ti back to on board graphics, which requires getting the VGA monitor out of storage to see the BIOS. It wont boot past the splash screen with my (admittedly super cheap) USB 2.0 hub plugged in. Chipset gets really hot, it needs good airflow or it'll overheat. Other users have said it'll spin fans up really high for no reason since it expects to be in a rack, but with constant rpm fans its fine. Despite the quirks I plan to buy a second one in the future for a FreeNAS box.

The SuperMicro X8DTL is my favorite (old) motherboard. I use them for my lab and since the pricing has gone down, I have built some additional servers to use
