Children of Heaven
Children of Heaven is a wonderful foreign film from Iran that gives a very illuminating look into the lives of a poor Iranian family. It is a fascinating glimpse into a culture that I, like most Americans, have very limited knowledge of. It is absolutely amazing to see the differences in the ways that families interact and function in their daily lives. To see the values that are portrayed in this family makes one yearn for a simpler way of life and a return to a time when life's struggles made a family pull together, not apart. I cannot say enough about the lessons so beautifully illustrated in this film. You do have to pay attention or you will miss some of the most important details that make the story. I have watched it so many times and I love it more each time. It is perfect for the ... Having grown up in Iran, during the 1960's, as an American teenager, I fell in love with the country and its people. We lived in Tehran, and I have to say that I've missed it so much - but current politics limit travel...so I had to find another way to "go home". This film was perfect: set in Tehran, I was able to see the city I often dream of. How it's changed - just like me (now 52)! The true joy, however, was in the story line: sweet, simple, and profound - it's a tale of love, ingenuity, innocence, and dedication. Great movie, family-friendly.
A great family-friendly movie that develops along the need of a pair of shoes. It depicts how sincere and righteous family thrives within meager income. The story begins with the lost of a pair of repaired shoes of the little girl, and ends with the naked feet of her brother, who is in need of yet another pair of shoes for himself. Knowing that their father, the sole breadwinner of the household, could not afford to buy new shoes in the near future, the little siblings took all the responsibility upon themselves to share a pair of school shoes. The shoe-sharing did not work out as smooth, of course. The elder brother took it upon himself to race in a marathon for the prize of a pair of shoes. But, the problem is, he has to post himself as the 3rd best, because only the number three gets ... A great family-friendly movie that develops along the need of a pair of shoes.
