The Boss DN-2: Dyna Drive An Overdrive Pedal that Reacts to You, it is a great addition to any guitarists pedal arsenal. The pedal reacts to the aggressiveness of your picking on the strings, the lighter the cleaner it is, the more tension, the harsher the tone goes. This is very similar to the after-touch effect you get on synthesizers, but with guitar--- awesome little personal touch for your tone! I bought this pedal because I was looking for a very specific tone of distortion. I was looking for something with a lot of sparkle that didn't get too muddy (like a lot of tube screamer clones) and which gave me a very small amount of distortion which wouldn't completely cut my bottom end. After trying out 8 or 9 distortion pedals (the Pork Loin was a close second) and decided upon this little guy and am pretty happy about it. First off, it does end up cutting your bass a bit. Depending on your band or amp situation this might not be a big deal to you, and it certainly doesn't do it as extensively as other pedals, especially when the drive is dialed back. Also the tone of the drive tends to be a bit metallic-y, especially when cranked up. This is similar in nature to a classic boss ds1 distortion pedal. Also, and this could be a problem for some people, the lack of a hardwire bypass means you need to have some sort of power to the pedal in order to bypass it. No battery (or no ac) no bypass. To me the real strength of this pedal lies in drive dial position between 7 and 10 oclock. You never get anything approaching hardcore metal tone or fuzzy distortion in that range. What you get instead is what I call a lot of "grip" on each individual string with chords sounding more piano-y and with tons of sparkle. Paired with a tube amp you really get the best of solid state and analog together. The variability in the drive means you can set it to the highest distortion you would want on the dial and then pick more softly when you want to stay away from that zone. It's very reactive and becomes your playing friend very naturally. Plus the level knob lets you crank up your tube's natural distortion if you want a little more of that flavor mixed in. If you're looking for a more "clean" sort of distortion pedal I highly recommend plugging one of these in front of your tube amp. I don't think they're terribly popular so snag one while you can!Read full review
Works well easy to dial in with the gain set low. The gain turned up high isn’t as practical or pleasant as low gain.

works excellent, versatile sound, very dynamic, can be used as a stand alone overdrive pedal or to boost for leads, clean sound, great for the price i got it for and can sit proudly next to higher priced boutique pedals. would rely on it to be my main gain channel, works great on gain channels too if your using it to boost for soloing. boss is also a reliable company so i really wasnt expecting anything less than a strong case and quality product. Will stand by it as one of the better "everywhere buy" overdrive pedels out there that doesnt get the recognition it deserves...
I was pleasantly surprised by how reactive the Dyna Drive was to my picking. I didn't get a chance to dial it in how I would have liked at this point, but what I was able to do with it was go from a heavy picking attack chorus to calm arpeggios and never having to worry about the intensity of the overdrive. The Dyna Drive gives the guitar player complete control over the intensity of the overdrive. It's surprising to see that it's not more heavily advertised by Boss.
