Four losers head off to their favorite vacation spot from when they were younger to try to relive some of the good life. When they arrive the find out that all the good times have passed them by and the resort is run down and falling apart. They hop into the Hot Tub and are transported back to 1986 where they get to re-live one of the worse weekends of their lives. Only this time things will be different. This movie was fun, but it was not nearly as funny as I expected it to be. It was interesting to look back at how sad everyone was back in the 80s with the strange clothes, hair and attitude toward life. Hot tub time machine stars: John Cusack as Adam, Clark Duke as Jacob, Craig Robinson as Nick Webber, Rob Corddry as Lou (The four main stars of the film) and Sebastian Stan as Blaine, Lizzy Caplan as April, Collette Wolfe as Kelly, Crispin Glover as Phil, Chevy Chase as The Hot Tub Repair Man, Kellee Stewart as Courtney Agnou-Webber, Lyndsy Fonseca as Jennie, Charlie McDermott as Chaz, Crystal Lowe as Zoe, Jessica Paré as Tara and William Zabka as Rick Steelman. It was entertaining but I would probably rent this one instead of buying it.Read full review
Every so often there's a movie that features nudity, crude sex, too much drinking, and the liberal use of the F-word...but it's so funny you can't help laughing out loud even though, if you're an intelligent person, you feel a bit ashamed of yourself. If you like the Austin Powers films, or pretty much any movie with Sasha Baron Cohen, you'll enjoy HOT TUB TIME MACHINE. It masquerades as one of those silly 1980s comedies where a bunch of guys go to a ski resort (or a beach resort) where they drink, pick up girls, and run afoul of the local ski champ (or surfer dude). In reality, it's a clever send-up of those movies, blended with BACK TO THE FUTURE where a kid travels back in time, not to change the future, but to keep things from changing so that he will be born. You had to be around in 1986 to fully appreciate the satire. Young viewers unfamiliar with 1980s culture may not understand the reference to Kid 'N' Play, or appreciate the casting of Crispin Glover (George McFly in BACK TO THE FUTURE) as the bellboy. In the end, HOT TUB TIME MACHINE also has a message about enjoying the present while taking responsibility for the future. HOT TUB TIME MACHINE has excessive drinking, cussing, and mindless sex, but it does not GLORIFY these things; in fact, it clearly shows the error of this path. If you think it's simply a raunchy comedy, then it's over your head.Read full review
amazing. i laughed durring the entire movie. great cast. movie is about 3 grown men and cusaks nephew who have done nothing with their lives and decide to go back to their favorite hangout from when they were younger when a friend tries to commit suicide. when there they get into a hot tub which turns into a time machine and they all go back in time to where they were in highschool. in the 80's. now in the past they must do everything the same which includes some things they wish they could change. while trying to figure out chevy chase's clues on how to fix the hot tub so that they can get back to their present time. however when the time comes do they want to go back to pathetic lives? yes this movie sounds cheesy, which it is, but if you are simply looking for a fun movie where you don't have to think and wil make laugh your ass off, this is the movie to watch. i love this movie.Read full review
This was a super-funny movie! I watch a dozen movies a week, at least, and i LOVE comedies, however I rarely watch a movie more than once, it is a very rare event, and even more rare, is that I laugh out loud at anything. I might smile quietly, or grin a little, but it is very rare for me to experience a belly-laugh or make any sound when laughing. This movie however, made me laugh a couple of times out loud, which is a good task ;) It is not perfect, but for anyone growing up in the 80's, this movie is especially heart-warming, and I have in fact watched it twice. Enjoy!
I got this movie for my male and he likes to watch it when he's stressed. It is a funny movie and a great deal for the price. No, I'm not going to include any spoilers in this review.
