Book arrived on time. The wrong dust jacket was on the book, but the seller was very nice and immediately offered return or partial credit. Very easy to work with this seller. $10 shipping for a hardback seemed a little pricey although it’s been a while since I’ve mailed a book. Thanks for a great transaction.

The book showed wear, but nothing that I wouldn't have done myself over the course of reading it. It just shows that it was good enough that someone else took a lot of time with it because of it's message. I'm pleased. Ordinarily I would have protested the shipping, but the sellers deducted the cost from the book's value, so I figured it all worked out and I have a good bible study book for show for it all. Thanks

  • American Shaolin by Matthew Polly

Whether or not you've had the opportunity to visit China, this book brings home the vast differences in culture through the eyes of a young man who's impressions were shaped by the TV version of Kung Fu in the early 70s. What he finds after entering a world barely opened up to Western travel is far from the idealized setting he had imagined it to be. What makes it so funny are not only his experiences among the Kung Fu masters, other students and the general population, but his understanding of how they view him as the only foreigner in their midst. With his fluent ability to speak their language, he is able to tell the story from both points of view. It is well written and will grab you from the very start. If nothing else, it is one of the most accurate depictions of life in China that ...

  • Kung Fu Magic!

This book is awesome. I find myself not only learning about China and Kung Fu, but I am also laughing along the way. The author does an excellent job of telling a thorough account of his trial and tribulations at the Shaolin Temple. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone. In fact I am probably going to read it a second time.

  • entertaining and informative

With a humble humor author shows objective and informative differences in the two cultures with some explanations why things are as they are in China. Easy, fun reading.

  • Great Read!

Thoroughly loved this book. Sat down with it on a Friday evening and could not put it down. Finished it Sunday afternoon. I lent it to a friend in my Martial Arts class and he loved it as well. Humorous and informative at the same time!

  • Great!

Loved this book. If you love kung fu and always wanted to visit the Shaolin Temple, you will love this story. The writing is good and the story is great. Highly recommended.
