About this product

Product Information

More than 1,000 ago, a killing machine escaped the battlefield of an interstellar war. After losing its pilot in the process, the machine flew through space and eventually crash landed on the planet Vay, where it rampaged the land and killed everything in its way. To save the world, the five most powerful wizards on Vay captured and divided the machine’s power into five orbs and hid them in a far away place where no one would be able to find them. Desperate for world domination, the evil Danek Empire recreated the deadly machine as an army of warriors that it unleashed to take over the entire planet. Vay, the classic role playing game distributed by Working Designs in North America, opens in this futuristic universe as Sandor, Prince of Lorath, prepares to marry the princess Elin. When the homicidal robots from Danek carry out a surprise attack on the castle, they kill Sandor’s father in the process and abduct his bride, setting in motion a vow for revenge that propels the action of the single-player RPG game. Assuming the role of Sandor, players go on a quest to save the princess and to find the five hidden orbs as the only hope for Vay’s salvation is harvesting the power of the original killing machine to defeat Danek. Along the way, the player (as Sandor) crafts armor, earns gold, and develops special magical powers and skills as he explores everything from Magmal Isle to Draktyr and defeats the evil bosses. Despite mixed reviews of the game, Vay remains a classic from the 16-bit console wars of the 1990's. Its memorable dialog is often compared to classical literature, and the interesting characters, who regularly break the fourth wall to talk to the player, and quirky electronic music made the game a cult favorite with enough fans to warrant a modified version of the game designed for the iPhone. Released in North America in 1992, the Sega CD is a CD-ROM accessory for the Sega Genesis video game console. Sega designed the device to provide CD-ROM capabilities to the Genesis so users would have the ability to play CD-based games that offered more storage and potentially better graphics than the cartridge used on the Sega console at the time. It discontinued the product in 1996 after the debut of the Sega Saturn console. Consistently ranked as one of the top game consoles of all time, Sega Genesis was the successor to the Sega Master System. Its library of more than 900 games included the popular and exclusive Sonic the Hedgehog series of games and its own version of Mortal Kombat featuring the blood and violent moves left out of Nintendo’s version of the game. The console competed directly with the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and each company sought to outperform the other with exciting arcade-style games and advanced graphics.

  • As good today as it was 13 years ago!

Vay is one of those games that just never gets old. It's basically a traditional turn-based overhead rpg, but the game has an outstanding and gripping storyline that just hooks you from the start and doesn't let go until the credits roll. That or until you finally get tired of fighting the enormous amount of battles needed in order to level your characters up enough to make it through the game in one peice. Either way, it's a thrill ride while it lasts. As if the game itself weren't enough, you'll also find a beautiful CD-quality soundtrack complete with voice overs and cinemas to keep the plot rolling along. The high degree of difficulty and somewhat tedious leveling up might turn some gamers away, but if you like a good old-school rpg with a lengthy and challenging quest, then look no ...

  • Vay - Sega CD

I decided to buy this game because I heard it was good and because I like the RPGs of Working Designs. Vay doesn't disappoint while it isn't too spectacular either. I haven't played that far, but the story is unfolding in an interesting way and I'm having fun playing it. There are some static cutscenes that resembles animation and some nice orchestral/disco music I enjoy. It is quite similar to Lunar actually, but the battle system is a little too simplistic and not well planned. If you have the Sega CD and like RPGs, I see no reason not to get it. Vay pass up when you can have much fun with an 0ld sk00l RPG for a very cheap price? Buy it at eBay and don't forget the map!

  • Vay set the bar for all RPGs!

If you think back to the original Final Fantasies on the NES, the thing that sticks out is the great story lines. It was never about the graphics and animation, so people tolerated the cheesy character design, map layouts and battle scenarios. Vay was the first RPG to put just as much emphasis on those neglected details as it did on its story line. Resulting in an all-encompassing RPG experience unlike any of its predecessors!

  • This game IS better than Phantasy Star 3. Don't listen to the haters!

Excellent cut scenes, compelling storyline and redbook audio round out the rough edges of this step-forward-and-swing RPG. Your levels max out at 199 instead of 99, if you're into that sort of thing.
