A good router that can support up to 802.11ac in the 5Ggz band, and up to 802.11n in the 2.4Ghz band. I've used them as access points, and reliability has been excellent. The Asus controlling menu software is straightforward and easy to navigate. The router can be configured via it's firmware as a regular firewall/DHCP router, an access point, a wireless repeater, or a media extender (wifi connection to the network, and then the wired ports on the RT-AC66U become active for wired devices). Keep the router current with the most current firmware from Asus for all security fixes and improvements from their official site.

This router was manufacturer refurbished, but when I took it out of the factory box it looked brand new. Being a refurbished item provided a great price with substantial savings. Installation & setup was basic enough and presented no tough hills to climb. I have definitely noticed an increase in my home network streaming & internet connections. I would recommend the ASUS RT-AC66U router to any shoppers looking for outstanding performance at a real bargain.

Right out of the box this was a great router. It preforms both realiable and fast, the software makes it a very user friendly router for the novice even though I am expereinced in the computer field. The range is also very good and has never dropped a signal. The price is good compared to others close in features and options it is not cheap but worth the money. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a realiable router that can be used for everyday or even a small business. You can even choose settings to make it work superb with a vidoe game console for on line gaming. I am very pleased after about two months of uses it seems to foot the bill and I have about 5 differnt sharing devices being used at the same time with no issues at all. I really like the feature uf the usb shared network as I can plug in my external drive and share it throughout my network. Over rating of 9 out of 10 at this time, I have a hard time saying anything is perfect.Read full review
This is a great product. This is my third one, because I wanted to add one in the garage. The wifi was spotty on that end of the house and I wanted more signal out in the yard at that end of the property. The great thing about these is that you can put them in AP only mode. I have one at each end of the house and one in the middle. I have them all at 1/2 power and the 6 of of us roam from one end to the other with seamless signal hand-off. I highly recommend this product.

Would have given 5 starts but I spent 20+ minutes resetting the admin password back to factory specs as it wouldn't take the password I'd just changed it to. Also, because there's apparently NO way to bypass the quick setup wizard or whatever it is when you first connect it. Really a pain for someone experienced and doesn't load all the bloatware that's supposed to help (I guess, I never loaded it). I like to just use the built in web interface to set up my routers as I've done for literally many years on may routers. I finally got around the wizard by putting in a simple, yet different admin password. It would take that and once done, I could tweak the settings as I wanted. FINALLY changing the simple admin password back to something complicated. Maybe if a regular user loaded the software, etc., it'd have been easier for them, I don't know.Read full review

This router (and the N66U) is the ideal for installing a 3rd party firmware. Tomato Shibby specifically. ASUS make them with a special recovery mode, a different partition in the device, that makes them unbrickable. You can always restore them in recovery to factory if you want or the latest tomato firmware. Always. For the price, this router is a beast. Stable, fast and customizable with even more features when used with Tomato firmware. Totally recommended.

I've gone through many routers in the years of wireless. This has been the only one that was worth leaving a good review of. I'm a programmer with a large network with many wireless devices (20+). This is the first wireless router that can handle my demanding network, my in house streaming, and my file transfers without having to it freezing or slowing down. To me, THAT is the best feature, yet the device does soo much more. Yes, this is a Wireless-AC device. The speeds are perfect and it is compatible with Wireless-N/G/B/A. My house had 2 wireless routers because of range deficiencies. This router is now my only device. The range of it gives me 80-90% wireless signal throughout my house without other wireless routers, bridges, or repeaters. You can have multiple wireless networks -- (Have one for your guests so you don't have to share your 'real' password or give them access to your local network) Built-in VPN Server. Connect to your workplace (why?) .. or better yet, connect to your own home network while traveling. Parental Control - I don't have kids, so I don't use this feature. USB Ports for a Network Printing Server or share your Disks across your own network or access them away from home. There are other features which are standard (FireWall, QoS, IPv6, DMZ, DDNS) that the router supports. Feel free to read the Manufacturer's documentation to see if this device supports something very specific you are looking for. The best thing to me is that this router does it's job. You could say I've have bad experiences with routers in the past (Belkin, Linksys, NetGear) and it's such a breath of fresh air to have a router that works like it's supposed to.Read full review
not having the best router you can buy is kind of like entering the Tour de France on a second hand, rusty bike - it's the heart of your online experience - you need reliability, power and features - this router has it all - even integrated (programmable) VPN accounts can be managed via the full-featured admin screen. I love this router, it has changed my experience of online services and helps me to squeeze every last Mb of value out of my home network.

ASUS has always been a great brand for me, This 66u is a great router with x-tple functions. Yes, an older model at this time (2020) but very usable. I'm presently using it as a repeater and it has helped my WiFi signal through out the hose.

I've set this router up as a second router for my house to cover the dead zones. I'd set it up on the far side of the house from my Verizon AC router, and this router constantly outshines the one Verizon gave my family. It broadcasts further than the Verizon one, and the signal can be picked up through more walls. It's one good router for the price. I'd recommend to people living in small to medium-large accommodations. I'm not sure how well this router would work in a concrete or brick walled structure, but in my woodframe house it works excellently.
