  • Fantastic album!

I was turned on to Moby Grape by a guy in Stillwater, OK.! His name was Ken and he owned a small used record and cd store. I was looking for something new to listen to and asked if I’d ever heard of them. I said no and he suggested I check them out. He had a used copy in his store so I bought it, took it home and instantly fell in love with it. I really liked that they didn’t have a designated lead vocalist and that all the guys in the band sang lead at some point. I live in Tulsa now but would go back to see him whenever I had the chance. Ken was killed in an automobile accident some years ago but I still think of him quite often and for sure every time I go to Stillwater. His shop is no longer there as it was closed a few years after his death. I think fondly of Ken because he always had ...

  • 100 Proof Grape Juice, Sweeter Than Wine

Moby Grape's legendary 1st LP is one of the greatest Rock/Pop albums ever released. I'd rank the Grape with 60's bands like The Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Paul Revere & The Raiders, bands of that caliber. There's a definite Beatles influence in the Grape's music, most notably on this self titled recording and their Country Rock/Pop masterpiece, TRULY FINE CITIZEN; but Moby Grape is (naturally) more American sounding, and very intense and hard driving as well. Talk about "keeping it real" ! In some ways the band was the epitome of the 'San Francisco sound', and this music is a product of it's time (1967). It's definitely "60's music". The songs range from Pop to Pop Rock to Acid Rock to Country Rock, with Bluesy lead guitar and soulful vocals. (I read that, or ...

  • Classic Rock

The Moby Grape CD's bring back the classic rock of the 60's. The discs were remastered and the sound is great. Memories!

  • A so-so Grape fest!

After reading about The Grape's legendary first album for so long, I decided to give it a try.. I must say however, that this listener was a bit dissapointed! Their three guitar attack just didn't make it for me! The Grape sounds like a mix of Buffalo Springfield meets Jefferson Airplane! You would think that alone would be interesting, but alas no! There are a few good cuts however. "Ohmaha" being the best!
