CD arrived well ahead of schedule undamaged, but unfortunately condition of disc did not quite match what was described on listed item page. Notified seller of issue, was given a satisfactory partial refund to cover cleaning costs and a sincere apology for my trouble. Phoebe was as original as they come (RIP).
Phoebe Snow (birth name: Phoebe Ann Laub) belongs in the same class of highly 'singular' artists as Joni Mitchell, Bill Withers, Joan Armatrading, Laura Nyro, Terry Callier, and Nina Simone. She always marched to the beat of her own drum and this now-classic 1974 S/T debut album ended up taking the whole record industry by storm for a hot minute there. Could've been far more active than she was back then, but had to put much of her music career on hold to care for her disabled daughter Valerie (who eventually passed away in 2007 at age 31). Still, Phoebe did more than enough to become more than just a mere 'footnote' in the annals of 20th-century American music history and should be celebrated as one of its most truly influential figures. 1989 Shelter CD reissue is the one to get as it was ... No cons. Every cut is a gem. This should be in everyone's collection and it should be listened to. One of the top 50 album ever, seriously. Slightly Pop, slightly jazz and a 100% original. One of my favorite albums of all time and I listen. Paul Simon's first and second solo albums are on the list as well. If you are not listening to these albums you are missing out on some true genius and humanity not the all too ubiquitous sound fluff.No cons. Every cut is a gem. This should be in everyone's collection and it should be listened to. One of the top 50 album ever, seriously. Slightly Pop, slightly jazz and a 100% original.
