  • Interesting; but short on facts

This is NOT one of John Waynes, best performances! Why? Because of poor guidance from the Military, who contributed information to the Directors and Producers of the film. For example, John Wayne, during the movie, addresses his Vietnamese Captain subordinate as "Dai We". This is NOT proper. This is the KOREAN title of the rank of Captain in the Army; NOT, Vietnamese. This, to anybone who has been there, would have been an insult to the Vietnamese officer. Wayne also directs a counterattack by "Puff the magic Dragon", a US Gunship, that could not have been conducted that close to his owwn forces. If one looks beyond the glaring errors in the movie, it's an acceptable portrayal of an event that may have occurred during the Vietnamese War.

  • The Green Berets (DVD, 1997)

This Vietnam era film was as much a U.S. propaganda movie as it was a true story of the plight of the people and soldiers of Vietnam. In this film Wayne plays Col. Mike Kirby, a hard and patriotic U.S. Green Beret Alpha team commander. This movie explores the interactions between the U.S. troops and those of the Republic of South Vietnam. The film is centered around a fire base in the Central Highlands and the efforts to defend its operations. There is also a mission to take out a high-ranking Viet Cong officer. David Janssen was a newspaper reporter who was critical of the U.S. presence in Vietnam, and took Wayne up on his invitation to come along and see for himself. The movie has that feel of being told through his eyes. There are several areas of poor continuity in this film suck as ...

  • John Wayne is outstanding

I love this movie. My copy came up missing and this is the reason for this copy. Holly Wood can't make movies like this anymore. It's all liberal crap with their agenda in the script.

  • John Wayne , what more can I say.

I first saw this movie when it came out in 1968-9. I was in the military at Ft. Bragg N.C. at that time. I liked it then and I still like it now, 2010. The only Con is this DVD, it's TWO-SIDED which I don't like. WHY ??? Other than that, the movie is Great IMHO. I also got to talk to one of the guys on the production crew. He told me a few of the secrets in making this film. I'll not tell here but it has to do with the helicopter crash scene AND the pilot of that Helicopter. See if you can spot what's going on. But I digress. The movie. I really LIKE it.

  • Not real. "We were soldiers"/ Mel Gibson, was much better.

Too much Hollywood. As a veteran, this movie was not entertaining or accurate. John Wayne is a good actor but not a soldier.
