    An excellent, excellent voice recorder, extremely durable

    An excellent, excellent voice recorder. Extremely durable. For good results, it's Important to pay attention to settings. Excellent for music too, but EQ is required before burning to CD. Works fine without a battery cover, but Olympus sold me a battery cover for this recorder's identical predecessor. That predecessor still works fiine after 10+ years of regular use, except that its hold switch stopped working right, requiring battery removal between uses.

    Olympus WS-500M (2048 MB, 544.5 Hours) Handheld Digital

    This little guy has 5 separate files to separate all of the classes and adjoining lab work I have to take this quarter. I can replay the lectures and it is relatively clear although I do get quite a bit of background noise from other students shuffling papers and such. However, I do have it on the highest quality setting of the many settings this device comes with. It is smaller and lighter than most cell phones with an amazing battery life. On the downside, it took a long time to learn how to navigate it, and there are still qualities that I know it has (like pause, for example) that I can not seem to locate. Right now all I am able to do with ease is record, replay, recharge, download and erase. It also needs to be said that I should spend more time with the instructions.

    Olympus WS-500M Mini Voice Recorder

    Overall I like this device. Easy to use. Very Useful. Amall enough to carry with me at all times. My use for this device is very simple and limited to recording reminders and notes to myself while driving or when writing is not an option. This device is so simple to operate I'm able to feel the location of the buttons I want to use for recording operation. I was relieved to learn the quality of the recording was good enough to easilly understand clearly what I'm saying even with lots of background noise. It has other functions I have to use for such as playing music, but since I've not used this feature I don't have an opinion of it.

    Great model, too bad they "improved" it

    I own several Olympus voice recorders and they are all good, but this older model has a couple of features that are not available anymore. 1) The screen is backlit. Eliminating this may have made the voice recorder more energy efficient, but that also means you need light to view the screen. 2) When you change the battery, the recorder keeps its settings and you don't have to WAIT while it reboots and then asks you which battery. You continue right where you were before and don't lose your place. 3) The wait time when turning it on is shorter.

    GREAT VOICE RECORDER

    This little recorder has one very nice feature. You can be listening to an mp3 and when the battery runs out, you can insert a new one and it picks up where you left off. I use them to record a talk or a consultation (I am an astrologer in Houston, TX) and the sound quality is great.
