G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is a third-person shooter adventure, designed for two players, based on Paramount Pictures' summer 2009 film of the same name. The game follows its own original storyline, which begins just after the events of the film. Players lead a two-soldier team of their favorite G.I. Joe characters through a series of discrete but successive missions, advancing the story and moving closer to the game's ultimate confrontation with the elite of the enemy terrorist military organization known as Cobra. The action plays out with both active heroes on a single screen, emphasizing the need for teamwork integral to the G.I. Joe stories. To ensure that Joe fans of all ages and gaming skills can work together to battle through the game's levels, the control scheme is based on a scalable design. It is possible to blast through each mission using only two controls -- move and shoot -- yet additional controls, for moves such as strafing, melee fighting, and charged-up attacks, are available to empower more practiced gamers. <br><br>In the summer 2009 imagining of the G.I. Joe legend, fans are introduced to the military's secret team of specialists, and witness the origins of the nefarious enemy organization as well. In addition to gun battles, players face hand-to-hand combat and some car-jacked driving challenges, in missions of infiltration, sabotage, and assault. At certain points, when the situation looks desperate, players' characters in the current mission can call in support from other G.I. Joe operatives, making use of their unique abilities to get past a tough fight or obstacle. By playing through the main campaign, gamers unlock additional characters for use in replays and other modes. Although following directly from the story of the movie, the video game draws on 45 years of fiction and lore created through G.I. Joe comics, cartoons, previous games, and multiple toy lines from manufacturer Hasbro, including the revamped line of G.I. Joe toys developed and released alongside the feature film and game.

I got this game cheap on here, (for under $15) and for the price it was a pretty entertaining game. The game could have been great, but it doesn't seem they put much effort into it. The characters are all pretty much the same in their class and the levels and enemies don't vary much either, so its all pretty repetitive, especially since you have unlimited ammo and can just hold the fire button all the time. Those are the bad, but if your a casual gamer and looking for a game that easy to get through without making you insane with difficult puzzles and having to find keys or other items to get to the next level, then this game is very entertaining. OK honestly I knew nothing about the game but liked the movie and the franchise. This is an excellent game for a movie adaption. Perfect for kids or adults. I grew up playing with the original series toys from 1985 and up. This brings back a lot of memories with a new spin on it. The franchise has gone hollywood and has made some changes but still keeps its soul. I personally enjoyed the movie... I know there are diehard fans that think its got to be exact to the original but realistically every artist is going to paint differently and if you have an open mind you can enjoy it. Now the gameplay is excellent for a 3rd person shooter. Think 3-d contra w 2 player co-op and if ur playing as a single player you can switch characters on the fly in a fire fight. Worst case if you actually do die, you come right back and just lose points. It has missions in a wide variety of areas, desert, jungle, arctic and more. You play over 10 characters which you must find and free then buy to use including some favorites as Duke, Snake eyes, Stormshadow, Gung Ho, and many more. Each character has their own unique special weapon and own unique style either commando think sword or hand to hand specialist, combat soldier which is shooter and melee blend and then ur heavy weapons specialists... blow it up. Certain types can access certain areas so you can play through certain levels to find filecards, intel, or other Joes. The fact that you can die over and over again is great for young kids that dont understand strategy and game play basics, while an adult can guide them through playing co-op. It also has vehicles that you can drive and play in. This is a solid game I'm hoping they can make an original series game like this, with the old school vehicles, figures, and playsets. So all in all it was a great gameplay experience. Now for the downsides... Certain times camera angles are not what you would hope for the camera is fixed the entire time but changes on its own at certain points disorienting gameplay at times. As in any shooter certain times gameplay can get redundent but they do a fair job with changing up your opponents throughout the game. One other thing that would've been a real treat is to have allowed your characters to have leveled up like in the x-men or marvel ua games. It would've added to the replay value of this game. Over all for what this game is I give it a 4.5 out of 5. If ur a diehard fan of the 80's series you might give it a 3 out of 5. Bottom line this is as close as you can get to playing with the 3 3/4 inch toys in a game as you can get to date. Fun for kids and adults alike.
