Showing a turning point, and maybe it's good
I've been a Reel Big Fish fan for as long as I can remember. These guys are straight up Orange County Ska music injected with just enough Pop to make it a fun listen. However, this album is a bit more dark than previous ones. After this album the band was released from parent record company Jive Records, later the band indicated that Jive did little to promote their works and were relieved to be let go. I'm beginning to believe that this album was simply a way to fill their contract requirements. You'll notice that a lot of the songs include a fairly dark sounding horn section for a Pop/Ska band. The album is good, but it's not the best. Most notibly the song "Dont Start A Band" is very catchy and probably my favorite off the album. Also the cover of Morrissey's "We Hate It When Our ... A Wonderful Introduction to Ska
As a first timer to the genre, I was skeptical. My usual musical stylings being much more along the lines of Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, and Anti-Flag, Reel Big Fish seemed rather out of the ordinary. However, at the recommendation of friends, I bought and listened to their CD and was hooked by the first song. Now, owning all of their CDs, I can say that Ska in and of itself is a wonderful discovery to make, and I can think of no better band to help you into it than Reel Big Fish. This CD is a great choice, and I would push it upon any of my friends. If you have even the slightest passion for music, you will appreciate their feel-good style. I suggest you get it! this band is my faveroute band ever there lyrics are depressing sometimes but funny most of the time and the ska sound works really well i bought this album cause its the only album i dont have so im happy now :)
