This stripper was purchased to strip fine, solid wire for prototype electronic work. The wire usually has Kynar insulation, which is thin. Most often, the wire is 24 or 30 awg. The stripper did strip the 30 awg wire as received, but it did not strip 24 awg using the slot for that gauge. Using the slot for 26 awg, it stripped the 24 awg wire, but badly nicked it. I added some electrical tape to the end of the stripper jaws so it wouldn't close as tightly, and after that modification, it usually stripped the 24 awg using the slot for 26 gauge. Of course, then it wouldn't strip 30 awg wire. For consistent stripping of 24 awg wire, I have to insert the wire, close the jaws, rotate the wire a full turn, then pull to remove the insulation. That is not always practical to do. When that is not done, the stripper frequently only peels the outer surface of the insulation. One is then left stripping the wire by other means as the wire with partially stripped insulation just slips through the jaws of the stripper if tried a second time. Finally, one of the jaws is wavy, as if stamped by a press a second time. That may contribute to some of the stripping problems as the cutting jaws do not oppose each other well. Overall, it is a nice design and the ground cutting slots should be accurate enough. Perhaps my tool was simply the result of poor quality control.Read full review
