  • A pretty good player for a pretty good price

After hearing a slew of negative reviews about this particular player, I was a little hesitant about purchasing it. I've been using it for about two weeks now and I really have no complaints to speak of. I was able to upgrade the firmware with no difficulties whatsoever, and it has been able to play every Blu-Ray/DVD disc we've purchased or rented, including notorious discs such as "The Dark Knight". With blu-ray discs, it takes less than a minute to load and start playing. There is some hesitancy when you try to stop a disc, but this is a very minor complaint. My only wish was that this player had 7.1 analog audio outputs with a built-in audio decoder so that my older receiver could play Dolby TruSound or HD-DTS audio-tracks (I believe the BDHP21U has this feature). In addition, ...

  • Sharp Aquos BDHP20U Blu-Ray Works Well With Aquos HDTV

The Sharp Aquos BDHP20U Blu-Ray Player plays Blu-Ray disks as well as DVD's. The player interfaces directly to the Sharp Aquos HTDV via an HDMI cable. The remote control for the Blu-Ray player will control the HDTV as well as the player. The Blu-Ray player will play DVD's as well as Blu-Ray media. The player is solidly built. The display is a very pleasant color, it does not look cheap. The unit plays some oddly authored DVD's that will not play in other older or newer/cheaper DVD players. The player takes awhile to boot up and read a disk. The media drawer opens and closes very slowly. The player unfortunately does not play MPEG1 authored VideoCD's, which were sold before DVD's became popular. The remote control does not have the "zoom" function for the Aquos HDTV, requiring the other TV ...

  • good machine

this is my first blu ray player. After reading counless reviews and looking at many different models and manufacturers it seems that many of the features and updates are just bogus. This plays bluray and dvd discs great in HD thats all i need it loads fast enough and works continuosly. I dont need to stream or watch you tube on a 55 inch flatscreen or watch any bonus dvd features which i hate anyway. In closing this machine looks cool and plays blurays and upconverts dvds with great quality. thanks for your time im here all week.

  • Very slow, not what I expected.

The unit was probably great back in the day, but it's excruciatingly slow. I also assumed that the unit had an amplifier in it, that I just needed to connect speakers to... not so. So the fancy surround sound out is basically useless. Cutting edge technology back in the day, but very, very clumsy now.

  • Upgrade From DVD 2 Blu-Ray

The reason that I decided to buy a Blu-Ray player is kinda funny. I do not even own a HD TV. I got an e-mail from DisneyMovieRewards telling my that they will send me a Blu-Ray disk of my choice. OK! I'm not turning down anything free. I am regiatered with DisneyMovieReward. Instead of clicking on the link (in fear of a virus) I went to the website. When I signed in, I got the same message.-- I got my free movie, now I needed a player. I wasn't about to play over $300 so I turned to e-bay. This on was at a great price. I did my research before I bidded. I'm happy I did. Works great even on a standard TV. (Although I do plan on upgrading to HD to see the true power of Blu-Ray)
