About this product

Product Information

Forty years before it hit the big screen via a glossy Tom Cruise remake, the classic 1960s television series MISSION IMPOSSIBLE captivated audiences with its tense and stylish thrill ride through Cold War espionage. Following the globetrotting exploits of a covert taskforce of government spies--team leader Daniel Briggs (Steven Hill), master of disguise Rollin Hand (Martin Landau), electronics expert Barney Collier (Greg Morris), tough guy Willy Armitage (Peter Lupus), and femme fatale Cinnamon Carter (Barbara Bain)--the series distinguished itself with intricate plotting, high-tech gadgetry, inventive cinematography, and, of course, an indelible theme song. Smart and iconic, the vintage series is resurrected in this collection of 28 digitally remastered, remixed, and high-definition episodes from the debut season, which netted two Emmy Awards (Best Dramatic Series and Best Actress for Barbara Bain) and featured guest appearances by Lloyd Bridges, Carroll O'Connor, Ricardo Montalban, George Takei, and Eartha Kitt.

  • GREAT series still FUN after all these years~

At long last~ the ORIG Mission Impossible~ Season one~ The classic series is still FUN after all these years~ Watch the Team Kidnap a man right under the NOSE of about 10 police guards, the Team Rob a Vault while catering a dinner~ STEAL a diamond with annoying Cat trying to play with the diamond~ LOL, ON the lighter side the Guest Stars with fake middle European accents is ever so funny, a young Carroll OConnor with a beard~ most amusing! Great theme song impossible plots they carry off with Ease~ ** one bit of fun are the signs in fake foreign languages but WE can read them ** how funny~ Steven Hill as Dan Briggs his only season on this is excellent as the silent brain of the team~ Beautiful Barbara Bain won an Emmy as Cinnamon Carter the lovely lady spy~ Martin Landau as Rollin ...

  • Your mission Mr. Briggs......

It's about time Paramount/CBS video released the first season of Mission Impossible. I have been waiting years for this release and watched as other, less popular shows were released. This release is the best quality I have seen of these old episodes. The picture has been cleaned up and the dust and debris you usually get on syndicated TV is gone. The soundtrack is mixed here in 5.1 sound and sounds incredible. The set consists of 7 discs (4 episodes each) and they are in slim-line cases. The shows are in order of their original release dates. I do have some gripes about this set. I wish there had been some sort of bonus features, there are none. Some better liner notes would have been nice, including the release dates (they are not listed) better plot summary, guest star lists ...

  • A True Classic TV Series

The First season was done in 1966. Cold War plots dominated most episodes, but were very entertaining none the less. An early episode even dealt with bringing a major narcotics manufacturer/distributor to justice. The shows were well written and well acted. My only negative comment is with the, so called, " 5.1 Surround Mono", The sound quality is good, but not 5.1. My home theater system plays the audio through the front speakers and my sub booms explosions, etc. It is before Mr. Phelps ( Peter Graves) Steven Hill does a fine job of portraying I. M. F. leader, Dan Briggs. I am very satisfied with my purchase of this boxed set and I recommend it to any "Mission: Impossible" TV fan. This is NOT anything like the Tom Cruise feature films.

  • Great to go back in time

Really enjoyed seeing them all over again..easy shows to watch..Clear beginning and ending--Get the bad person and off they go..plus great to watch how technology has changed--record players--phone booths--tape machines.. how did they ever manage without a cell phone?? When you see how many epidsodes you get--worth the money--esp. if you are traveling--hours of enjoyment.. Alway got season 2.......

  • Awesome Set

This DVD set became a must have for me because I was unaware that M:I was NOT originally cast with Peter Graves in the role of Jim Phelps. Rather, the first season was headed up by Steven Hill (later of Law & Order fame)as Dan Briggs. The first season's episodes are a crisp mix of action, daring storylines, and characters of the "Impossible Missions Force" that you really cheer for. This is a must have DVD set for anyone into classic television. I have to admit that, up to this point, I had not seen a lot of the classic series, but I can say after watching that the Tom Cruise movies DON'T do it justice at all. For more of an action packed ride, pick up M:I season 1!
