Two CD set that compiles the '90s musical legacy of rock 'n' roll wild man Screamin' Jay Hawkins. The set collates all 44 of the raving songs recorded by the late, legendary vocalist by producer and Bizarre partner and A&R man Robert Duffey, who also acted as Hawkins' manager during the period. The numbers first heard on Hawkins' original Bizarre albums - Black Music for White People (1991), Stone Crazy (1993), and Somethin' Funny Goin' On (1994) - are augmented by five previously unreleased bonus tracks. The set includes new liner notes by music journalist Chris Morris.

Worst Packaging Ever--Rapsodomized Ruined Versions of Classic Novelty Rockabilly Soul Music--
I bought Screamin' Jay's Singles Collection after hearing the song "Frenzy" in the X-files episode entitled "Humbug"--which is, by the way, a delightful X-files episode. I also love the "I Put A Spell On You" song as I heard in the movie "Hocus Pocus". I decided to buy this second double disc set entitled "Are You One Of Jay's Kids", figuring that with four discs I'd probably have about everything by Screamin' Jay. My first impression is that, after really cool packaging on "The Singles Collection", this set's packaging was poorly planned and executed. The liner notes are trapped under a cardboard flap in the center that is difficult to get to from either side, and mine actually came apart at the glue seem trying to get to it. The two discs are packed too tightly and seem likely to be ... I bought Screamin' Jay's Singles Collection after hearing the song "Frenzy" in the X-files episode entitled "Humbug"--which is, by the way, a delightful X-files episode. I also love the "I Put A Spell On You" song as I heard in the movie "Hocus Pocus". Now, the songs on this set are pretty offensive and vulgar--which I can almost deal with from a novelty act like this. The final straw, though, was the "dance" version of "I Put A Spell On you" that turn out to be the standard version with some really out-of-place and worthless rap additions. To top it all off, the worthless US Postal Service smashed this package and creased the cardboard cover art. They are worthless for anything expect cheating communists into the White House. Can you say PRIVATIZE?? Still, this set is interesting and worth a listen for what you can get out of it, I guess.
