Great for the Ice Packs, drives make good doorstops.
I bought these simply for the "Ice Pack" tray which this model converts SAS to SATA 3.5 form factor, and keeps my drives cool. I replaced the 160GB drives, those are moving ZERO, hence the "Slow"! I use these trays on 15k.3 SED drives in a RAID 5, keeps them ice cold! If you need to convert SAS to SATA pinout, and mount in a 3.5" bay which needs an adapter anyway, and a seperate SAS adapter for your fanout cable, you can have it all in one right here! Just get the right ones, some only do SATA. It's dead
Computer wouldn't recognize it. Any computer I tried it in wouldn't recognize it. I formatted it to NTFS, FAT32, and FAT16. I also tried a couple Linux formats and OSs. When the computer is turned on you can hear it spool up but that's it. You'll have that buying used parts. I can't see it being tested and shipped arriving in the shape it's in.

very good drive but use aluminum heat sink because the plastic conversion 2.5 to 3.5 only good for sata drive only base wont remove the heat from the hard drive t will causes overheat only good for desktop or external case with external fan for ventilation to cool it downs he hard drive SAS drive use the heavy duty heat sink

This is a great drive with lots of speed and lots of room.
I just built myself a new system, upgrading from seven year old technology. It contains two of these (among other drives)on a Gigabyte 970a ds3 board, amd athlon II 450 cpu, eight gig of ram. These two drives were used/pulls, but work great! My OS is on one, in its own partition. It provides very snappy performance. The second drive is setup like the first, only the OS partition is empty. I use this drive for my various programs. Setup this way, if my main drive/OS goes, all I have to do is load the OS on the second drive.I just built myself a new system, upgrading from seven year old technology.
