Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex follows the Japanese animated television series of the same title, which is based on the manga of Masamune Shirow and lauded for its blend of existential insight and sci-fi action. This third-person action-adventure interpretation for PlayStation 2 features platforming through futuristic urban environments, a number of hacking puzzles based on the cybernetic protagonists' special abilities, and, when necessary, a fair share of shoot-'em-up action. Players can control Major Motoko Kusanagi and officer Bateau through the game, making use of the ability to "hack" into the minds of other cyborgs to steal key information or get hints of enemy plans and locations.

It works great
This game actually has pretty good graphics based off the time it originally released. And it’s interesting cause it has English voice actor’s yet the anime does not. Plus this game was not really advertised much at all in America.

Awesome unconventional platformer / shooter!
This game stays true to the feel of Ghost in the shell. Plenty of story, plenty of shooting and things blowing up! The developers did a great job! There's a decent amount of extras to unlock, and the game features a four-player deathmatch mode. The Tachikoma tank in the game is often times hilarious without over-doing it. One of my favorite unlockables for the single-player game is the sniper rifle with infinite ammo. It lets you go more of a stealth route and gives the game a different feel! You have to really pay attention to your surroundings when transversing the terrain bacause nothing is really pointed out to you, only a general direction that you should be headed towards. What makes it unconventional is that there is hardly ever anything that looks like a "you can land here" spot. ... This game stays true to the feel of Ghost in the shell. Often times, you'll be jumping off a building to another one stories below, to land on a corner of a scaffolding or pillar. I personally like this approach as it gives a more realistic and excited feel to platforming. But to less experienced gamers, I can see where this may be difficult or frustrating. Hand-to-hand combat is great when you have the "shock gear" on. Enemies will fly through the air sparking after you punch and kick them. Their bodies spiral into water or even off sky-high buildings if you happen to be near one. The game also encourages and sometimes requires you to think before you make your move. If you don't, snipers will take you out easily with one shot. The only negative aspect to this game is probably the length of the (single-player) game, which feels slightly short (12 levels from what I remember). Still, the levels are very fun and replayable and there's unlockable difficulty settings. For those wondering about this game being compared to Oni, I pretty much hate that game but Ghost in the shell: Standalone complex is great. Graphics: 8.5 (Everything usually looks great but sometimes there's things that aren't quite as detailed) Controls: 9.5 (jumping can be tricky sometimes but everything else is near-perfect) Audio: 9.5 (surround is an option and sounds great) As a side note, the games actual box art is reversible, so you actually get 2 covers for the DVD case -- choose the one you like best! Final word: Great game, worth buying! 4 1/2 out of 5 stars!

A great game for fans of Ghost in the Shell
Excellent game for fans of Ghost in the Shell. Controls take some getting used to, but they actually make a lot of sense once you get a feel for the gameplay. The only real downside is that there just isn't anything here setting it apart from the droves of third person shooters on the ps2. But what the game does, it does very well. A great game for anyone who loves the ghost in the shell series. Great graphics and gameplay!!!! All the characters and the voices from the SAC series are on the game, which makes you feel like you are part of the series. Word of waring: im not sure if it was me, but since this game is for the PS2 and i have the PS3, not the PS2, i could not save my progress!!! It was a big pain, since you have to replay from the begin every time, cause for some reason my PS3 would not save my progress, every thou i tried to save it myself!!!!! other than that, its a great game!!A great game for anyone who loves the ghost in the shell series. Great game!
For a long time there wasn't a decent Ghost in the Shell game. Bungee's Oni was meant to be much like the world that Ghost in the Shell shows but it wasn't as good. This game is full of action, dinamic, challenging levels. The good balance between firearms and hand2hand combat spiced with tricky jumps makes the game unforgettable.
