Excellent for honing well maintained blade or final sharpening.
The stone cuts almost any steel quite well. Fastest cutting action can be observed on carbon steel (such as 1095, Shirogami and the like), followed by most stainless steels (440, AUS-8, VG-10 and the like) and then followed by crucible steels (154CM, CPM-S90V) and finally high-hardness Aogami steels and HSS alloys. Main abrasive used is aluminum oxide and being a kiln-fired ceramic stone it doesn't warp in water as easily as cement-bonded stones do. It cuts well and releases new abrasive continuously as the bonding agent and the abrasive wear out. It's a bit "muddy" in use, but cleans easily and provides excellent feel and feedback in use. It only requires 10 minutes of soak time, which means it can be put to use very quickly if need arises. Put it into a container, fill with water, ... The stone cuts almost any steel quite well. When you're done using the stone, wipe it dry and leave to fully dry uncovered for at least 24 hours before you put it back into the box. Do not leave it exposed to direct sunlight or very strong airflows (e.g. fan or wind). Just natural evaporative drying is what's needed here.
