I bought this game because I've loved Yu-Gi-Oh! since I was a kid, and I jumped at the opportunity to play a fairly recent game. After booting it up and playing for a few minutes, however, I wasn't quite as happy with this game as I thought I would be. The prologue was over-long, dull, and a little repetitive in some parts which was a real turn-off right off the bat. The gameplay after the prologue can get confusing unless you spent a couple minutes searching for the in-game help function which can only be accessed from the map if you look at the little tip at the bottom right-hand side of the screen that tells you that. The plot for the story mode doesn't really pick up until you talk to people over and over and try to gain 'hearts' with them to increase your friendship level with them, and eventually they ask for favors until one of them can be picked by you as your partner. Basically, the story-mode is too slow to even be considered a story-mode for a Yu-Gi-Oh! game. The one thing I like in the game is what I typically always like in the Yu-Gi-Oh! games, which are the duels. If that's all you want in a game, then by all means, buy Tag Force 5. Just don't expect an epic story that will leave you hanging on the edge of your seat. I guess that's a curse when it comes to Yu-Gi-Oh! games. You'll have either: a game with an amazing story and crappy dueling mechanics (e.g. The Sacred Cards), or a game with amazing dueling mechanics but a very crappy story (or no story at all; e.g. Worldwide Edition: Stairway to the Destined Duel).Read full review
If you like the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG or OCG, this is a great game to test out many decks before you spend loads of money on real cards and find out the deck is weak. The only problem here in the US is that we have some TCG exclusive cards and since this game is made in Japan it only has TCG cards that have been released for the OCG up to the release of this game. Cards like XX-Saber Darksoul, making it hard to test out an expensive deck like X-Sabers, even though it's a good tier one deck, maybe you just want to see if you like it. One problem testing out decks is with some of the not so smart moves that the computer AI may use while you duel. Making some duels not 100% purely the best possible. Even buying this game for the cards alone may be well worth purchase price alone. Go out and play the closest to the real thing, along with the newest cards though Starstrike Blast, and just have a fun time!Read full review
This card set is excellent if you are just a collector, or a huge fan of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. "Chevalier de Fleur" is awesome with its effect of negating a Spell/Trap per turn. The only drawback is, the effect can only be used during your turn, and only 1 Spell/Trap can be negated. So you need to use this card's effect wisely. "Fleur Synchron" may be a Level 2 monster, but do not underestimate its effects. If this card is Synchro Material for a Synchro Summon, you can summon a Level 2 monster from your hand. This effect goes well into an Ancient Gear Deck, since "Ancient Gear" and "Ancient Gear Cannon" fit into this category. You can pull off some awesome combos with this card's effect. "Liberty At Last!" - What can I say about this card? It was errata'd for the Trading Card Game, but if you're looking to remove a powerful monster from the field, this would be an ideal card for you, as it returns up to 2 monsters from the field to the owner's Deck if your monster is destroyed in battle, so if your opponent summoned a card like "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" and destroys your monster, "Liberty" would fix it so your opponent would have to meet the summoning conditions to summon that monster again—even if they drew it. If anyone wants a taste of Sherry LeBlanc's Deck, or you're looking for cards with unexpectedly powerful effects, I say, this set is for you.Read full review
