My 27kW Generac stopped communicating a while back - I found out the reason being that Verizon (that supports the ML network) are decommissioning 2G/3G service, and it will be gone everywhere by 2021. This is a 4G device and should be ok for awhile longer. It was easy to install, took less than 10min. I used the existing harness from the old interface, but a new one is provided if you need a replacement, or if it is for a new install. Once installed, it started working right away. You have to call to have it activated with your account though. A plus is that the service for 4G is cheaper than the old 2G/3G! $70/yr instead of $120!

The product works well and really is not hard to install. There are a few odd aspects to install, such as drilling a 1 ⅛ inch hole in the sheet metal and finding where accessory port 1 is. Once installed it connected more easily than I had anticipated. I did however, expect that I would have some remote control over the generator, but not really with the exception of beings able to select/change the "exercise" day and time. It will, however, flood you with emails when something happens, such as the generator was turned off, the switch to auto was engaged and such as that. Overall good, but still a little less than I had expected and hoped for.

Had the old Generac 5961 RF remote monitoring module for 10 years and started going bad. Replaced it with this cell service based unit and it works great so far. Now I get status notifications by text/email for my liquid cooled 36kw generator even if out of the country which I could not get before. The only drawback/tradeoff is I can’t control it remotely from inside the house which the 5961 could do, and an annual fee. Also, make sure you buy a Generac 6478 Mobile Link Extension Cable if you have a liquid cooled generator because you’ll need it. (You can’t use the included harness because it’s only for air cooled models.)

Works as advertised! This was a replacement for an earlier model, so installation was super easy, but if it's a first time install for you, it is not difficult given the right tools and a little bit of electrical knowledge. Just be sure to turn of the generator power!
