I use a Dell e6410 laptop and though the battery life is abysmal with either the 640m or this 720qm, the pure horsepower offered is worth it for my needs. Despite the 640m's quad-thread capability, if you're used to a desktop i7, having the full quad-core and 8-thread performance (to an extent. of course) is pretty much a must for some people. Having more per-core performance would have been nice, but the higher-speed models of the 700qm series are hard to find and are out of my current price/interest range. I simply wanted to see if the extra cores and threads made a difference & I was thoroughly pleased at how right I was about them. Multi-tasking is unreal with this CPU. If it is in your price range and you are able to find one, I would suggest the higher speed models (740qm/840qm or higher) though, be aware of your heat dissapation and the complete and utter loss of battery life involved for these extremely high-power processors. I feel that this one is right in the middle. About the same battery life as the 640m & the performance seems nearly identical for single-threaded work. Only noticeable speed-up is the ability to multi-task like crazy & the fact that the system never really needs to use Turbo Boost to get everything done. Great CPU.Read full review
