Good value
Good quality
This is my 2nd Cobra
My previous Cobra was an 820. It worked great until it fell twice in one day (suction cup on the windshield let go) and it would turn on correctly after that. I determined it was the miniUSB port that was faulty. Probably because when it fell it slammed into my dashboard and hit on that port, which is also the power in for that model. The 840 has a separate single pin port for the 5vdc power, which is great. I hook mine up to ignition power (converted to 5v) so when the truck is on that dashcam is on. I like it very much.

Get what you pay for
The overall build quality is okay but the plug where the power supply plugs into the camera is very loose and does not make good connection so the camera shuts off randomly when it stops making good connection. The suction cup is kinda cheap and will melt in the sun if you leave it on your windshield. It also claims to support continuous loop recording but mine does not seem to do so. I read the manual cover to cover and searched for a setting to change this but could not find one. Overall, for $20 it provides basic dash cam function but I highly recommend spending a little more and getting a higher quality unit if you plan on using it every day. A dash cam is a highly valuable resource with today’s I competent drivers. Protect yourselves.

This is a great product when it works.
I bought 3 refurbished units from different sellers so far and had to return them because they didn't work, Beware. I have one I bought new about 2 years ago and it is great, Found out that it does not overwrite old files if you you don't use some finite video clip size.

Excellent 1080p video. Very versatile...with a small learning curve
After using this dashcam for 2 weeks, I find this to be an amazing value. Even if you are technically inclined, I would suggest reading the short F.A.Q. on the Cobra website. It will save you time in the long run. This camera has a very nice build quality, even right out of the box. It can be powered by either the mini USB port or the power cord input. The SD card slot is easy to use and clicks nicely. You can format the card on the camera itself. I used the suction cup for a few days before realizing that it had an almost invisible clear plastic sticker on it. Since peeling that off, it the mount has not fallen off once in the hot colorado sun. TO GET THIS CAMERA TO RECORD ON LOOP, you have to have the video time segment set to NONE, which is the "X". The camera does not come like this and will cut off when the card is full. I'd highly recommend buying a larger SD card. The night vision is not razor sharp, but I feel it is effective enough to offer clear enough resolution to certainly help in the event of an accident. I would not rely on it to capture license plates at night, especially when moving. Compared to others I've used, this camera has outstanding clarity in full HD. It will go through an 8gb card in under an hour. It is very user friendly and, as everyone has already mentioned, the screen is clear but TINY. The menu is almost invisible to my 20/20 eyes but the setup is still quite easy to use, and easy to remember... especially if you take a minute to read the online FAQ.

Few positives with this package
This camera has two really good features-those are the video quality and the sensitivity of the GPS receiver. Other than that, I can't find much to like. The power cord is only about 6 feet long. It cannot be dressed around the window corners in order to hide it because it is so short. It has to drop straight down across the windshield to the lighter socket in most vehicles. I'm 62 and my eyesight is ok, not great. Because of the small display, I cannot make out the wording on the screen if I need to check the settings or even see what is on the screen. The monitor view is far too small to call it anything other than a thumbnail. If you don't find these issues to be a problem, this camera then becomes a good value.
