    Works as described

This power supply works well for me. I have only used it twice so far as I just got it, but it works as described. CC mode works correctly, CV mode works correctly, auto on fan works correctly, the fine and coarse adjusters work ok. The wire gauge of the supplied leads is a bit thin but that is no big deal, thicker leads are easy to make and inexpensive. I haven't verified the noise ripple with an oscilloscope but for those that need lower ripple in their application, it would be fairly simple to add some post filtering to it. As a very basic, low cost, general purpose supply, it seems to be quite decent. Time will tell if it is reliable.

    Not for some applications

I purchased this mainly because I repair old radios and often old car radios. I need a decent power supply to do so. The ad stated it was capable of 30 volts at 10 amps. First of all, the manual that comes with it looks like it was written by a grade school kid who doesn't speak English. Second, it generates so much electrical noise it is impossible to use to power an old AM radio, the type of which I repair, because it generates too much interference. For being rated at 10 amps, it comes with little, skinny, 18 gauge leads - try pushing 10 amps through an 18 gauge wire - doesn't work. In fact, when I tried to use it to power an old car radio, at 3 amps, the leads get so hot the insulation almost melts! The leads can be replaced with a heavier gauge set but he spurious noise it ...

  • Great for the price...

You get what you pay for....maybe more. I checked it against my VOM and it is almost spot on with voltage and amps. With the displays you can monitor voltage drops and current usage. You can limit current to determine the amps needed to power a project. All the stuff you need in a device like this. It does have a switching mode PS at its base. Not the best for high end audio and analog circuits. It can be a great starting supply to get a project going. The main reason I chose this unit was the price. Hard to pass this up. Now...it's not HP quality, but for around $50 I don't think it is that bad. Kinda loud fan though.

  • Doesn't obey voltage/current limits that are set. Not safe.

NOT SAFE. It latches up and gets stuck oscillating between CV and CC modes. In this case it fails to honor the voltage and/or current limits you previously set. Furthermore, as another buyer has previously noted, (so these are problems with all units) when ever it is switched on, whether it is working correctly or not it generates a large amount of RF noise and can't possibly be FCC certified like the label it has. Watch the video on vimeo described farther down in this message to see the problem. Imagine buying a 12 volt power supply to run your portable radio and finding out that it burned up your radio because it sometimes decides to put out 21 volts instead of 12. That is the sort of problem with this power supply. This power supply has a CV (constant voltage = voltage limiting) ...

  • Very highly recomennded

This is probably my favorite piece of slot car equipment. This is the same power supply that you see on sites for 179.00. I paid 49.00 for it , and I love it so much I bought a second one. I have a carerra 132 scale track that I run everything from carerra go cars all the way up to 124 scale and all in between. I couldn't do that without this power supply. I turn it down when the grandkids are there so they run it without destroying my cars. I also adjust it to run all the different scale cars I have. It really makes it enjoyable. I cant stress enough , how great this power supply is. I highly recommend it , and DO NOT HESITATE in buying one.
