[ Pose 01 Relax ]. [ Pose 02 Art ]. [Pose 03 Cute]. Pose 04 Sexy. When taking a backlit photograph, it can be interesting to pick out and paint the parts that are hit by the light. This book is composed of four chapters on the charms of a woman's bodyline: "Loveliness," "Beauty," "Vibrancy," and "Allure," as well as basic information.
This Visual Nude Pose series is over priced for what it is delivering.
The book is beautifully made, but in terms of being an art reference, which is what a pose book is all about, it's lacking in some key areas.
1. It's soft bound nature makes it very difficult to have open as a reference, prompting you to cut the binding off and spiral bind it. Of course, that then undermines the nice presentation, and also introduces holes to many of the images.
2. Many of the images are printed across pages, making it so some of the image is not present (as it was cut out in the minding process). Not what I want out of a reference, I want to see the entire image, without having a piece of it missing right through the center.
3. They censor the model's nether region. Yeah, this is from Japan, but seriously, it's a REFERENCE! The last thing I want in a reference is censorship!
4. This pose series is priced around $60 here on eBay per entry, which really positions it as a premium reference material. However, with the short comings listed in points 1-3, I feel like this is a very pricy ask. At half the price, I'd feel much better about the fact the execution is so lacking.
Other things to know is that you are getting around a couple hundred poses (there's 143 pages, some don't have poses, some have more than one). The lighting is well done, so you can easily make out the form. Though the lighting is pretty basic, model on white, main light just off to the side of the camera sort of stuff. So don't expect to get any lighting inspiration. This is simply for form.
