  • A good Spidey Caper, Excellent Del'Otto Exhibition

Family Business takes place before Marvel's "All New, All Different" push when things were comparatively simpler (For Spidey, at least). In the story, Dan Slott's Superior Spider-Man had not happened yet (despite releasing around the same time). Peter Parker is alive, and at his simplest mode of being: A man down on his luck, and wrapped up into a web of trouble. Like the beginning of most good stories, this is the result of a woman. But this one claims to be his sister. Later on Marvel takes the storyline too far, eliminating the simplicity and mystery from this story. But as a standalone, the story is engaging and a fun read. It's action packed, dabbles in intrigue and aspects of Spidey's history rarely touched on (his parents), and actually does justice to his character in a way that Slott's contemporary attempts just consistently failed to do. Chief among all of this is the SENSATIONAL art. Gabriele Del'Otto's artwork is a treat for the eyes and a love letter to Spider-Man. It is the shining point of the book. The product arrived safely, intact, and with zero damage to the exterior or interior. The pages are a wonderful glossy quality.
