Excellent Quality, Didn't Disappoint
When my daughter was very young, I bought her a previous version Safari Ltd. alligator figure, along with some other animal toys, for her birthday one year. I've always loved animals, and was fascinated with alligators and crocodiles when I was a kid. I was always impressed with the quality of that alligator figure that I gave my daughter, from the accuracy and detail of the sculpt, to the paint. Recently, I began searching online for a realistic alligator figure for possible use in an arts/crafts project. After extensive scouring of the internet for all possible candidates, I thought this one was probably the best for my intended purposes. I had read the description and had an idea of the figure's size, but I was still a bit surprised at how large it is upon receiving it. Although the figure looked good in the Safari Ltd. images, I was still a bit concerned, as there appeared to be some awkward issues from some angles, such as the tail appearing to be twisted and raised in the air, instead of lying flat behind the alligator's body as it should with the alligator being in a resting pose. However, I found this to not be the case. The sculpt is very well detailed and accurate looking (and the tail lays flat!), and the paint application is excellent for a mass produced toy. There is even highlighting on the top of the head, on the scutes down the alligator's back, and on its limbs. The only nitpick I have is that there is a series of unnatural looking short, green lines on either side of the underside (belly and tail) of the figure. I suspect these are an attempt to add more depth and detail to the figure, but these lines aren't applied with the same variation/subtlety as the other paint details, so they seem a little out of place. However, this certainly is not a big deal, and you'll only see those lines when the figure is flipped upside down. The figure is still great. I have to say, I would have loved to have had this alligator toy as a kid. I'm 40 years old, and I think it's great now! I loved the few alligator and crocodile toys that I was fortunate to have as a child, but I never saw any when I was growing up that approached the quality and realism of Safari Ltd's alligators. I'm glad that my daughter had hers to play with when she was growing up, and I definitely recommend this one.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Better than Schleich brand
This is a good figure of A. mississippiensis. It's not 100% perfect but the proportions are generally right and the armor scutes are mostly well-represented. This Safari alligator is better than Schleich's alligator by far. Paint job is rather good, too. Good realistic dark black that is very faintly greenish, on a yellowish undercolor which is sort of correct. Eyes are well done and painted with correct alignment. Nice size to the figure, too.
