Once you go IS, you will never, ever go back to using non IS 'nocs.

I also own a set of Canon 10x42L. (MSRP $2k) These are my favorite binocs for several reasons: A) They're great for occasional use if mostly left in a Jeep/SUV/Truck/car-trunk. The IS button must be held down for "on" and is also a battery disconnect. If you don't use them for 3 or 4 months, the batteries are still good and ready to go. B) The IS compensation angle is 1.2 degrees, good enough to use from a moving vehicle or boat in calm waters. C) They're lightweight, so you can observe something like birds for quite a while before fatigue sets in. You might think weight is no concern, but try using a set of heavy 10x42L's or 12x60 Leupold for 15 minutes, your arms will turn into quivering noodles. D) The IS allows tracking movements without jumping, so you can study bird feathers while ...

  • Beautiful optics

I'd been thinking about getting a pair of these for years and finally pulled the trigger. They did not disappoint! Crystal clear, edge to edge sharpness make these an excellent conventional binocular. Then when you add the image stabilization, they are in another class. I honestly can't see getting regular binocs if you can afford these.

  • Buy it for the image stabilization, not the optics

Buy it for the image stabilization, not the optics. The glass is just not very good with lots of purple fringing and just okay brightness and color. The Canon IS binoculars are all over the place in terms of quality. My go-to bino is the Canon IS 15x50's. They are consistently great. But some of the models are ungainly to use and some are not worth the $$$. The one Canon IS with good glass, the 10x42 WP's are not comfortable or ergonomically well designed. But for sure you can't beat the Canon image stabilization system.

  • Canon 10x30 stabilizers

Great viewing with or without the stabilizer on. Need to hold button down for this to work, but it saves battery use. Iam used to 10x40's but the field of view is fine with these 10 x30's, plus they are lighter. Sure takes the jiggle out. Wish I got them sooner, but the price held me back. They are worth the extra bucks.

  • Great Improvement

I previously used image stabilized binoculars on a friend's boat - you can instantly see the difference. I didn't want to spend a lot, so the pair I bought were in rough shape, but they work great and are very compact. Another plus is that they're waterproof and use AA batteries.
