The best way to do this is strictly pros v cons. Pros: 10.6 widescreen HD display. Beautiful, clear picture/video. Lightweight and easy to handle. Responsive. Comes with MS Office 2013 installed. Cons: Proprietary. Being a Microsoft product, you're stuck with IE and cannot install other browsers like Chrome or Firefox. Cannot install other apps that are compatible with Android devices, such as Utorrent or Adblock Plus. Summary: If you're looking for a workplace productivity device, this is a no brainer. It is ideal for taking your workstation on the go. If you're looking for an entertainment device [surfing the net, reading, watching video, listening to music (through headphones or external speakers), etc...] this is an excellent choice. Even with its proprietary limitations, it is an ideal choice for basic use and functionality.Read full review
I was wary about the RT os, but no complaints. I have owned the i pad and Galaxy Note tablets. If the use of the tablet is primarily for light gaming and photo displays, surfing, movies and e mails, then the Surface RT is acceptable. I pad would be better.Galaxy Note is superior to the i pad in almost all respects and is the best all around tablet out there....except for business, where this Surface Tab shines. I do business with a tablet and this device has free Word, Excel, etc. Much of my work is document review and working in Word is a must. I tried to use the i pad for business following the suggestions of the staff at the Genius Bar. But, the apps suggested by the Apple Store, when they worked, were inferior. My office is Microsoft. Remote Access works and works well. Also, the device provides 64 gb plus a micro SD card slot, so no concern about running out of room. A pleasure. The device easily attaches to monitor or tv for HD movie watching at Netflix, with simply MS adapter. It has a USB port which can be expanded with a hub, if needed. This is so convenient. Microsoft makes an adapter for connection to Ethernet cable. It is lighter than a laptop for travel use but has the advantage of being a tablet for fun or snap on keyboard for the more serious use. Downside: Apparently, the Apple guys are still working to compete by denying access to i tunes. Lots of complaints about so few apps - only about 50,000 at the moment. The touch keyboard is just too difficult to work with for me. One must be too firm with the keystroke and the keys are too small for big fingers. But, the on screen keyboard is generously big and easy to use. The hard keyboard, although a bit heavier than the touch keyboard by a few ounces is flawless, albeit expensive. I highly recommend. I was concerned about the Windows 8 os. My concerns were unfounded. It is easy to learn and, when the device is put into desktop mode, Windows 7 users will feel right at home. The RT will not permit downloading of most legacy software, which is disappointing.Read full review
I buy this product for my wife that's going to do a master degree, it has a good size, battery life is ok. it's not so light in front of other tablet but the good think is that she can use word, excel etc.,and it has a keyboard that you can easy install at any time.
Overall, a nice little tablet. I only play a few games & saw the warning from other reviews that this is not a gaming device. Words with Friends doesn't work. It will load but the tiles won't move. When using the touch screen, you sometimes have to "tap" the screen several times before the action is taken. Photo quality is good. I took identical pictures with this Surface and my wife's IPad. Her photos were much better. Was happy to get a link with my wireless printer. The upgrade from windows 8.0 to 8.1 was easy. Surfing the web & checking email are smooth. A stylus pen makes checking small boxes much easier. A "million" apps are available in the app store but very few are worth getting. Like having tons of cable stations with nothing to watch. Apple won't release the Itunes apps,so microsoft offers their little set of apps that no one uses. I got the bundle for $229.00. That is all it is worth. A higher price would make the IPad my choiceRead full review
With the keyboard, it is great for taking notes in class. It is light and easy to carry. The battery life isnt great, lasting maybe 5 or 6 hrs, if youre lucky, but for me that is just enough for me to use it at school and plug it in as soon as im home. For the price, its a great value. The only thing I dont like is youre practically forced to use internet explorer because it doesnt support chrome or firefox/doesnt have them in their app store.

The Surface Rt is amazing. It does EVERYTHING I need it to do, and then some. But do your own research to know what you're getting. Know what the RT OS really is. For me, I knew what I was getting, and I love this unit. I've seen people give it negative reviews because they can't game on it. Well, this isn't really meant for gaming, just like a gaming laptop isn't really made for portability, compared to this. As for apps, again, do your research and know what you're getting. I'm not much of a app person, so even though Windows isn't great with apps in there store, they have MOST apps, and the one's they don't, I just use the browser. Again, for me, no big deal. So if you're all about apps, maybe look into something else. But for me, it covers all I need. The build on the RT is great, very premium. Remember, these we're $500+ at launch, so the build is awesome. It feels tough, and nice to hold. Though resolution isn't full HD, it's still excellent and I love watching movies on the 10.6 display. Color's are nice and vivid, and overall, I'd say I'm quite satisfied with the display. Overall, I really love my RT. I own a Surface Pro, and wanted something for travel, and I got that with the RT. I got mine as a bundle with touch keyboard, complete with box, hardly used, not a single scratch on it! I swear it was brand new. And with free shipping, it was a no brainier. Again, be sure you know what you're getting with the RT operating system before you buy. Essentially, you can only install something on this only if it's available in the Windows store, that's it. This is not a full blown operating system. But again, for me, it's more than I need, and the excellent build and quality of the RT certainly makes up for it's minor short comings. In conclusion, if you want a full blown operating system with a full HD display, definitely go with a Surface Pro. However, if you want the little brother version of the Pro, with some short comings, that'll save you hundreds, go with the RT. As mentioned before, I got mine in mint condition, (9.8/10), literally, the seal was broken, screen protector was installed, and looked unused, came complete with touch keyboard and extra micro SD card, for under $80. No complaints what so ever!Read full review

I needed something that I could use for both work and play. I tried an iPad and it is great for social media, web surfing and games, but not so much for work even with Apple's versions of Office. Next tried a Samsung Galaxy Note8 and again, great for social media and such, not so much for work. I finally bought a refurbished Surface and gave it a try. I am already familiar with Windows 8 so that was not a problem. I bought a type cover to go along with it as well. It turns out that this was exactly what I was looking for. Built in Office worked great. Having a USB port was an added bonus, and the type cover felt just like my home PC keyboard. The ecosystem is still a little lacking (available apps), but I see more and more coming on line all the time. I was so impressed that I bought a Surface 2. Best decision I ever made! If you need a device that you can use for work, with a battery life that lasts all day, you can't go wrong with a Surface, but if you use it every day like me, you definitely want to look at a Surface 2.Read full review
This tablet is great for business and students. The tablet lacks games and entertainment since its based on windows market but its not made for that. It has Microsoft office and a USB port which is a huge plus and its way easier to tote along, rather than carrying a huge laptop. If your looking for games and entertainment than a iPad or a galaxy tab is better but for business and students this is the tablet you need.
I LOVE this tablet. I am a graduate student and needed a lightweight but super usable tablet so that I wouldn't have to take my laptop to school. I rave about this tablet to everyone. You would never know it's refurbished (except that the price is amazing). The battery lasts quite a long time, but not as long as a laptop. I think it lasts me between 6-7 hours of constant use. I got used to the keyboard super quickly (a day or two) and love that it doubles as a cover and lapdesk. The kickstand is super durable. You can also sync your current email with the Microsoft Outlook email so that you can continue about your life normally. Everything is great!
64GB! Much better value than iPad. A good transition from a PC to a tablet. The Surface also comes with a standard USB port, so you can insert a flash drive or any other device that requires a USB port. This is a great feature & I utilize the USB port a lot.
