    Hasselblad Zeiss 40mm CF T* FLE

    This short review is for the penultimate (I believe) version (i.e. FLE CF T*) of the Zeiss 40mm for Hasselblad V system. There is a newer IF version which is (at this writing) close to $5,000 USD. I'm using this FLE lens on a Hasselblad 555 ELD with a Kodak DCS Pro (16 MP) digital back. FLE means that there's a Floating Lens Element. More to the point, there's a second lens adjustment, aside from focus, for the photographer to make to optimize sharpness in the 2 meter (6 foot) and closer range. It's worth the effort. Optically, this lens is very sharp with minor distortion. The ability to have sharp images with close focusing is a big plus for me. The Kodak back I use has a 36 mm square imager for which this 40mm focal length is a modest wide angle, and I don't notice any ...

    Best wide

    Zeiss lenses are incomparable. No "modern" lens in plastic body can rival a Zeiss lens. This wide angle has no visible distortion and still manage to be extremely sharp at all openings. A real gem. A must have if you intend to go digital one day with your V Hasselblad.

    Hasselblad 40 mm Distagon

    The Hasselblad 40 mm Distagon is a classic Carl Ziess product, hight quality optically and structurally. In use it's sharpness and utility are excellent, even with the very critical high megapixel digital backs. This is a medium format lens, fairly large and heavy, though surprisingly the more bulky newer series lenses are not heavier than their forbearers. Excellent optically, sturdy, somewhat heavy and bulky, but that comes with the territory. Somewhat expensive, but it is a Carl Ziess lens!
