About this product

Product Information

In November 1965, some 450 men of the 1st Battalion, 7th cavalry, under the command of Lt. Col. Hal Moore, were dropped into a small clearing in the la Drang Valley. They were immediately surrounded by 2,000 North Vietnamese soldiers. Three days later, only two and a half miles away, a sister battalion was chopped to pieces. Together, these events constituted one of the most savage and significant battles of the Vietnam War. Told by the commander of the battalion and the only journalist on the ground through the fighting, this is the devastating, yet inspiring, story of those soldiers who sacrificed themselves for their comrades and never gave up.

They quickly communicated with me when I alerted of the mistake and everything was taken care of in a timely manner. I was very happy with my purchase. Good packing and arrived on time and my other dvd's were just as described! I'll buy again from this seller, Great experience 👍

Excellent, fair minded Seller! As described, swift turnaround, very well packed, helpful and equally swift communication. USPS lost book, Ebay claim resulted in a similarly swift refund, then it was delivered late, I was advised to keep it. Thanks very much !

This is an outstanding seller to deal with. Fair prices that are more than reasonable in this economy. The product is even better condition than described, a true value for my money. Packaged and shipped well shows seller has concern for the products he sells to arrive in excellent condition. The seller is friendly and communicates timely with his customers. All in all I highly recommend this seller and would do business again anytime. Thank you and be safe. Good luck to the future.

  • We Were Soldiers Once and Young

This is an excellent account of the first major battle between US forces and the NVA. It contains detailed and graphic descriptions of the battle and contains information on what the NVA was doing at that time. The horror of war is very clear. Much of the book is made up of quotes from the soldiers who were there and what they experienced. I think the book would have benefitted from tighter editing. The details on each unit are repeated so often that it interferes with the flow. Moore thinks that the results of this battle in which 12 NVA are killed for each US death set the tone for the rest of the war. The US would wage a war of attrition in which the NVA/Viet Cong deaths would so outnumer our casualities that we would win the war. What a disaster!

  • Required Reading

This book should be required reading for ALL new recruits. This tells it like it is, with information from both sides aiding in the feeling that one wrong step and things could go to hell in a hand cart in a hurry. This is probably the most honest & definitive book written about Nam and as good as the movie was, there was so much left out or skipped over lightly that there could have been a second movie made and still not covered everything adequatly. As a former Recon Marine TAD to Special Operations Group 5, I rate this book as a 10 and feel it should also be required reading for every politician in the country before they decide to send the young men and women of our country into 'Harms Way'. The Viet Nam Era being largly ignored in our schools, because we don't want to hurt anyones ...

  • amazing book

I saw movie "We Were Soldiers" with Mel Gibson as Lt.Col. Harold G.Moore several times. By my opinion it's great movie. But no movie can detailed tell a story than book. And this book is one of that amazing books which can tell story as reader you're inside that story. I recommend this book for everyone who interesting for literature of facts. My full 5-star rating.
