  • great lens

I purchased this lens in 1997 and immediately put in on my Nikon F3 with its motor drive. I put my F3 on its tripod and started shooting shots of my daughter Kathryn. Of course I had to wait for the photo's to get back! lol The shots were unbelieveable! Tight, crisp and great flesh tones even with Kodak Gold 100 consumer film. Well to say the least it really rocked with Pro portrait film. I have used it for some wildlife photography with very good results, or just shots of our dogs. It is a great lens with VERY heavy optics. So a tripod, backpack or such to cradle it on. I love the results I get on my Nikon F, F2 and F3. I think you'll like it too. Get back to the basics and be a PHOTOGRAPHER AND ARTIST, not just a snap and shoot type and no ability to chimp! You learn to trust your ...

  • Be careful buying older used lenses

The 50-300 f4.5 Nikor zoom is a great lens if you are strong enough to carry it. It is a heavy lens. I bought it especially for photographing air shows. But be carefol the one I bbought had a front lens fungus problem and the aperture ring that is nearly frozen. The only reason I kept it, instead of taking it back was because I got it for a good price, $182.50.

  • I would love to tell you about the lens

HI, i would love to tell you about this lens i bought on ebay. It was US $224.95, not cheep. I bought it back in Tue Oct 14, 2008 for shooting "kouyou" colour leafs around MT FUJI here in Japan. A team of us were also going to the top of fuji san to watch and photogarph the sun rise. I can also see fiji san from my room, all be it a long way away that is why i went for a 300mm lens with a x2 converter no a D80 would give me 900mm. Enough i think to get somre nice disteance shots of fiji san. Well that time has come and gone and I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED MY LENS. So Sorry i can`t write a review for something i have not got yet. sc

  • Excellent heavyweight lens

I bought my 50-300mm ED as an all-rounder for sports -- and it's a joy for that. On my D300, it produces fantastic skin tones for portraits, and it is razor sharp at all focal lengths. The only downside is that big front element is prone to flaring, so it's worth looking for the shade that was made for this lens. Also, this is not a lens that you want to lug on a 10-mile hike into the mountains (although I've done that). But if you want a versatile zoom with extra reach that's built like a tank, this will knock your socks off. You can see samples at gaeger2 on flicker.

  • Nikon AIS Nikkor 50-300mm ED f/4.5 Lens

In todays world the 50-300 ED is a old tooth, the Canon 70-200 2.8 L, 300 2.8 L, 200 1.8 L series are the prefered choice. Image quality is not that good, the Nikon 80-200 AIS 4.0 is great, light and very portable, add a 300 ED lens and you got a great combination. MA The Lone Star State USA
