Great game! The very first game that started the Soul Series which eventually became Soul Calibur and the accompanying sequels. This was one of the first and best weapon fighting games that came out for the original PlayStation, brought to you by the Namco, the same company that makes the Tekken series. Great quality gameplay with amazing characters, great graphics, and great fighting mechanics. Each character is amazing with different types of weapons, themes, and cool endings. There is the general arcade mode which is featured in most fighting games, and there are other cool modes to play as well. If you are a fan of both Soul Calibur and Tekken, and you don't have this original game, then you definitely need it! The controls are easy to learn and hard to master, and you will always have fun playing such a great classic like Soul Blade. Read full review

I happen to be good at Soul Caliber, but I gave this item a 3-star rating because I got frustrated with this one; it plays a lot like Virtua Fighter, a game that requires skill.

Soul Blade is, despite what some think, is actually the first title in what is now known as the Soul Calibur series. Now, being a PS1(Playstation 1) title, the grpahics, sounds and fluidity of the characters isn't what you may be used to. However, this is still a solid title and an excellent addition to any fighting game fan. The characters Hwang, Mitsurugui, Taki, Rock, Voldo, Li Long, Sophitia, Cervantes, Seung Mina & Siegfried are gathered to fight over the legendary blade, Soul Edge. The arcade mode is pretty much what you expect - a 2 round fight aganist all of the other characters, eventually facing the physcial form of the essence of the legendary blade, which is simply called Soul Edge. In addition to the standard arcade mode, there is also a sort of story mode, called Weapons Master Mode. IN this, the player chooses a character, and is put in various fights with certian conditions. For example, having to fight with only a little bit of your lifebar, or having greatly reduced time, or even survive a full round without being defeated by either knock out or ring out. By winning these fights, you unlock a variety of different weapons for the chosn character, which sometimes also have abilities of their own, such as causing a health drain when you hit the opponent, or even regain your life bar during the fight. Overall, Soul Edge is a solid title that definetly stands the test of time. If you like fighting games, or are just looking to complete the entire Soul series, give this excellent title a try.Read full review
Soul Blade (Soul Edge in Japan), is one of those rare PlayStation games to ever come across. The gameplay is complex, mostly balanced, and playable at that. Graphics are surprisingly good, and there's different modes to choose from. Great game. Would definately buy again.

Fun fighting game. I've played all of the Soul Calibur games that come after this one and thought it'd be fun to try. Not the best in the series, but fun and definitely worth playing with friends.
