Great book, I listened to it on cd, and it was read by the author. I like Anthony's dry wit, sarcasm and knowledge of the culinary world. I wrote down his ideas for a perfectly suited kitchen with knives etc. and made a list of what I would need to complete my kitchen. I can promise that you will not get bored with this book, lot's of insight as to what you should and should not order in a restaurent, certain foods certain days of the week you should avoid. I think it would be fascinating to sit and have coffee with Anthony, I know under that craggy and tough exterior there is a soft egg underneath.

If You Eat Out - You Gotta Know This Stuff. Much of what is written (said in this case on CD's) rings true with me. I was in the Industry for over 20 years, it's like old home week. I don't miss it, however, there were some good times had by all ... and the winners were the Customers. Bourdain holds no punches back. So, get ready for the Bold, the Bloody and the Ugly Truth.

Anthony Bourdain serves up a tough, candid, humorous banquet of entertainment and information in Kitchen Confidential. From his earliest culinary experiences as a child in France- his palate for exotic food was captured while slurping a fresh oyster at age 9- Bourdain acts as a no reservations tour-guide into restaurant kitchens from New York City to Tokyo, divulging secrets that may cause the reader to consider whether going out to eat is EVER a good idea. Bourdain handles his computer keyboard like a chef's knife, slicing and dicing a deliciously funny, delectably shocking, devilishly appealing buffet of words that lay out his 25 years of sex, drugs, and haute cuisine. Honesty and passion drip from every syllable as he shows, in memoir style, how his aggressive, addictive personality led him to become the galley master he is, instead of the assassin he might have been. Some readers may find his swaggering style and language revolting, but true connoisseurs of food and words will find the ingestion of Kitchen Confidential to be quite nourishing.Read full review
Bourdain is a great writer and reader (he reads his own book). The book is very entertaining but is superficial. Bourdain doesn't really explain why a kid from a privelaged background does more drugs than the average pharmacy stocks. Bourdain is a great observer and relates what he sees very well but only on a superficial level. In other words he paints well but he analyzes nothing. I kept hoping for some insight, some motivation but nothing. I was hoping for some recipes, some explanation of a dish ot two but zip, nothing. It's like Bourdain cooked to get the material for a bunch of books rather than the other way around. This could have been a truly great book instead of just highly entertaining but for mindless entertainment with a few good tips about what days of the week to eat out at a restaurant and what to eat when you do this book is just what the chef ordered. Not for kids or adults that mind sexual crude humor or a good case of potty mouth. All in all a very engaging book and fun to listen to but it could have been so much more.Read full review
In his own voice and words.. Very clear audio and I think it is better hearing the book read by the man himself rather than just reading it myself. Lots of fancy culinary words mixed with off color remarks. CLASSIC.

Anthony Bourdain from the Food Network is a seasoned chef. In this book he exposes the craziness behind the kitchen doors at restaurants. He travels around the world and shares his adventures. He has a great ability to tell a story which translates well in print. His eye opening point of view will have you thinking the next time you eat out to dinner! You would not believe some of the wild secrets. Kitchens party, to say the least.

I really liked this book. Bourdain is really interesting as he describes his life in the kitchen. He also gives good advice about eating in restaurants and home cooking. He reads this book himself. If you liked his show on The Food Network, you'll love this book.
