With the debut of their first hit, "California Dreamin', " on the charts, The Mamas and the Papas proclaimed themselves to be a potent new force in the burgeoning West Coast folk-rock movement, announcing to the world that something special and beautiful was happening in California. Now, 50 years to the day after "California Dreamin'" entered the Billboard Hot 100 on January 8, 1966, Real Gone Music is celebrating this very special anniversary by releasing The Mamas and the Papas: The Complete Singles-The 50th Anniversary Collection, a two-CD, 53-track set that includes for the first time ever the A and B side of every single the group released, all in their impossible-to-find-on-CD original mono single mixes. But this one-of-a-kind collection-which is remastered by Aaron Kannowski, the engineer responsible for Real Gone's acclaimed collections of singles by fellow Dunhill label acts The Grass Roots and Steppenwolf-doesn't stop with The Mamas and the Papas' singles; it also includes the solo single sides that group members Mama Cass Elliot, Denny Doherty and John Phillips cut for the Dunhill and ABC labels, again in their rare, original single mixes. Co-Producer Ed Osborne's notes feature quotes drawn from extended interviews with Mama Michelle Phillips and Dunhill label head and producer Lou Adler, while the package also includes a number of rarely-seen images of this eminently photographable band.     good memories of years past

    Love it. Play The Mamas and the Papas all the time. now I have all the songs they did though some are not as good as others. came not packed well and plastic case broken, but no big deal.

    A very good collection

    You will definitely get your money's worth in this collection. It had been thought that Dunhill records destroyed the mono masters of their material, including the unique single mixes of artists. Real Gone records, and the people behind this compilation managed to locate quality tapes, if not the master recordings themselves. The two disc set has the singles released by The Mamas And The Papas as a group, along with singles released by individual members. The booklet is informative, and the recording is great. Well Done!

    California Dreamin'

    The best source ever made of the original mono singles. I prefer stereo which I have of these but there are a few differences in the mono singles of I Saw Her Again, Words Of Love and Creeque Alley. These particular versions are really much better with added instrumentation. The Mamas The Papas made quite an impact during their run from 1966 - 1968. Cass Elliot was one of the most gifted singers.

    This two CD set seems to be very good Good clean fidelity in mono Seems to be completely from first rate master tapes These single mono versions sound much better to me than the stereo versions The songs sound to be complete and uncut from start to finish Everything you would want from the mamas and papas is here Even their fabulous solo singles are here I've got a very good ear for the original versions and these are it These seem to be professionally mastered in every way Past single versions on mamas and papas CDs were taken from vinyl records Really not mastered very well But this new two CD set of their single versions is worth every penny!
