About this product

Product Information

The Nikon Coolpix 800 features a sharp Nikkor lens and a huge memory buffer that captures continuous action at an amazing 30 frames per second. Zoom in close with the 2.5x digital zoom lens. New 2.11 megapixel technology, with super high resolution, creates brilliant colors and super sharp images. It's white balanced and has fully automatic focus, flash and metering to get the picture right every time. Or set the homing system manually for various lighting conditions. The camera takes up to 10 shots automatically (within approx. 1.5 fps) and records the most detailed image of the 10 shots using anti-jitter logic, which is effective for telephoto and macro shooting. Use Nikon's wide-angle, fish-eye or telephoto lenses to add special effects. Flash memory can store up to 200 images, and saves them in either TIFF or one of three JPEG modes. Compact design lets you take cool pics, anywhere. This camera is supplied with NikonView Version 2.5 software.

    Nice old digital camera

Its an old, early digital camera. The sensor isnt huge but the image quality is actually rather good. I was expecting some lo-fi digital shots out of this, and if you push the sensor around too much with different lighting conditions it can get a bit washed out (in a cool way). It's got 3 different quality settings which just seem to be different levels of JPEG compression. One thing though is you're gonna need to find some older CF cards. I bought a 2GB one, but the camera couldn't read or format it. Look for some in the 32mb-64mb range, and those should be ok. You'll still get dozens of shots on those.

    A nice old camera

The Nikon Coolpix 800 is not a camera for serious use. It is very out of date. But, I did not buy it for serious work but for fun. It is good for "snap and shoot", leave in the glove box, and not worry if it gets lost or broken type of camera. It takes sharp images, quick to learn, and very inexpensive.

  • Fantastic camera then and now.

I first bought this Nikon Coolpix in the 1990's for (get this) $826.00. Digitals for the novice were just getting some attention. At the same time I bought one of the first HP Photosmart printers. The combo of these two were a big wakeup for someone who loved 35mm. I took thousands of pics with the coolpix and printed that still look great. However, one night a friends' child knocked my camera off the counter and broke the lense. From that time till this past December I've probably owned 6 different digitals. But none could ever compare to my first coolpix. So, while shopping on ebay I decided to see if just by chance there might be one in good condition out there. Wow, I did find one in great shape. Of course it was like driving a model T. However, This camera ...

  • Very good "first camera" point and shoot

I purchased a Nikon Coolpix 800 back in 1999. It was my first camera, and I used it as often as possible. It was a very decent "point and shoot" camera, and I was also able to add a screw-on wide-angle lens that increased the productivity of the camera. I eventually upgraded six years later for a Nikon D70, but the Coolpix 800 still has some great memories for me.

  • Nikon Coolpix 800

I bought this camera because I had one like it that I had to get fixed and I needed something to carry me through while Nikon had it. I've used this model camera without a hassle for maybe a decade. Since the year after it came out, anyway. I originally bought it because a consumer magazine review rated it higher than the models that replaced it. The chip that grabs the picture is superb. The lens is sharp -- just wish it would go a little wider. Nice thing is that the camera takes AA batteries so you don't need to charge it -- and some places I go don't have electricity. However, if you use it a lot, get two sets of rechargables because it'll go through them pretty quickly. As a point and shoot camera, it's great and at the price I paid on ebay, it's superb. -B
