Many Outstanding Features!
Nothing but good to say about this keyboard..my 1st KORG, bought it to compare side by side with the Yamaha MOX6..... I like KORG's dedicated drum track, though you can pick only one to run during a combination, it's convenient to have it switchable on and off, The sounds on the KORG are amazing...solid and beautiful, and many pianos, organs, guitars, orchestral, and fx. For it's build date, years ago, I think KORG did a fantastic piece of work here..73 keys are just about perfect...with no need for a surface mount octave switch. Lows, and highs are clear and bright. It's a keeper, for sure. Haven't even explored the song templates, or recording features. If you can find one that's clean for under a grand...get it. Excellent synth keyboard with great looks and good build quality, not as cheap plasticky as more modern keyboards. It has a tendency to sound mildly metallic though hi-fi-ish, EQ'ing down its treble or closing the filter(s) a bit on a brighter patches can mitigate that minor tidbit nicely. Most factory sounds are editable and there's a small init bank for entirely new sounds by the user. Most sounds rock, be they pianos, e.pianos, pads, synth leads and basses, etc. The drumkits rock hard, too. The bells, though, sound like ass, organs are alright, and I cannot say anything about Leslie simulations and whatnot. The keybed is passable quality if you get a lightly used one, 88-key version has a great keybed, and the big, bright touch screen is a blast to use. Despite all its strengths, ... Despite all its strengths, consider whatever deal you see on one of these together with used Krome EX deals, the Krome is lighter (not that the M50 is all that heavy, at least not to me) and overall more potent keyboard with a better sequencer and much better onboard effects. Acoustic sounds are much better on the Krome if those are that important for you, though the M50's "M50 Grand Piano" patch has a charm all of its own, honestly. Menu diving for simple patch tweaks is extremely minimal, then more advanced tweaking for your making your own sounds from scratch is where you go through more parameter pages, but this is all a blast compared to, say '90s ROMplers and the D50 or M1, those are far more sluggish to edit and tweak. The one thing M50 could really use is a favorites function, or I need to look at the user manuals, ahaha!
