To be fair, this film does pass the Bechtel Test in regards to the female characters in it. Plus, the Romance plot is dealt with somewhat realistically. However, this may get too Disney-fied for some. Not to mention, the Political Correctness that deals with what kind of living is good or bad in regards to Native American and British living. Plus, Meeko gets too Designated Hero at times towards Flint and Percy, especially the latter. Fortunately, there are some good elements that balance out the bad. There are songs in this movie as with many of the Disney films but they're written by Stephen Schwartz, the best song writer Disney had in classic, iconic songs since Howard Ashman. Meeko gets a bit out of the Scrappy heap when he comforts Percy upon being traumatized by a death that happens in this film and setting aside the differences he largely created. Plus, the film's bad guy gets an epic Take That Scrappy in the climax. (It has to be seen or, at the very least, read about to be believed.)Read full review

Disney has done it again. This is a wonderful film about friendship, love and making the right decisions. As with all Disney films it is one that the kids can watch over and over and not get bored with it. There are a few characters that add some humor to the film as well. It is the first Disney film to be based on history, although not completely accurate, don't let that disctract you. As far as the music score, it is excellent! One of the best soundtracks of any of the Disney films. If you are thinking about buying this movie, do it, you will not be disappointed!
This "new" classic from Disney has some of the most beautiful animation I have ever seen. The attention to detail, as well as the magnificent use of vibrant colors is truly amazing. This is the story of Pocahontas, the daughter of an Indian chief, who through a chance meeting with English Captain John Smith, who she subsequently falls in love with, changes the relationship between the English settlers and Indians forever. The story also examines unrealistic dreams about America, i.e. neverending gold and riches, and the greed that follows. While Disney has used liberal artistic license to change the history of Pocahontas, making her a much more politically correct and environmentally minded young woman, the basic story is one of love of family, friendship, trust and honesty, values that are appropriate for children of all ages. I recommend this story wholeheartedly and rest assured your family will agree.Read full review
Pocahontas is a movie that has wonderful music, beautiful artwork, and a compelling story. This one and it’s sequel get a bad wrap unfortunately, but ignore that and enjoy these movies for what they are. Breaking racial and gender boundaries, Pocahontas was a brave and strong woman who helped change the world. This movie is based off of her and I highly recommend watching it.
