    This is a large, heavy volume, coffee table size. The content is maticulously researched and the maps are very beautiful. Many maps represented are extremely rare. Mr. Hayes manages to find the earliest maps of the United States to include in this book. The beauty and artist quality of the maps and the entire publication makes this a "find" for all book collectors as well as cartographers or enthusiasts. A copy of Historical Maps of the United States was purchased by the McCune Book Collection in Northern California, which is how I discovered it. This committee usually acquires only first editions printed before 1900. Historians, map makers, those interested in old and new maps, collectors who enjoy a beautifully crafted book in every way, will thoroughly enjoy this tome. I certainly am ...
