Ironhead guide using my new Lews
Rode with Mario used my brand new Lews on the Umpqua River in Oregon. Fishing was slow but we found a couple 4-6lb fish, since then I’ve caught over a hundred steelhead with this reel mounted on a 9’6” Rainshadow rod. The thing casts really nice, smooth with good distance, the drag is really the slickest. Steelhead fishing can test all aspects of a reel and after many trips down the Klamath with side trips to other fishy water, the Lews reel has been flawless so far, 2 months of hard fishing, rivers blown out today so I thought I’d catch up. The Lews is mounted on the rainshadow, lower rod in the pic, steelhead courtesy of Ironhead guide service out of Happy Camp, Ca..tight lines...Rode with Mario used my brand new Lews on the Umpqua River in Oregon. Smooth as expected, but worth the price?
I have other less expensive Lew's and some Revo's to compare against and at first glance not sure the $75 up-charge to what I've been spending justifies the extra. Casts smooth and the just two methods of adjustment/tuning vs. three on my other Lew's was a surprise. Can still get some over spin fairly easily particularly upwind. Paired with a Dobyn's Fury 733 MH it balances fairly well with that rod. We will see how it fairs over the long haul but initially it feels solid.
