From it's memorable pilot in 1960, Andy Griffith became America's most loveable father. The show was packed with unforgetable characters, headlined by such all-time greats like Andy Griffith and the much loved, much missed, Don Knotts. The Andy Griffith Show also launched the career one of the best childhood actors and eventual legendary movie giant, Ron Howard. Many people don't realize just how many stars appeared on TAGS, many of which made their first big screen debut there. Some of the stars are: Jack Nicholson, Barbara Eden (I Dream of Jeannie), Buddy Ebsen (Beverley Hillbillies), Bill Bixby (Incredible Hulk), Denver Pyle (Duke's of Hazzard)), Frank Sutton (Gomer Pyle, USMC), Jamie Farr (MASH), Teri Garr, Bob Denver (Gilligan's Island), Rob Reiner (All in the Family), Don Rickles, Jerry Van Dyke, Jack Albertson (Chico and the Man) and Howard Hesseman (WKRP in Cincinnati. This is such a wonderful show, and brings back lots of memories. Being 33, it had long ended when I began watching. But I still remember the first episode I ever saw: "Opie's Charity". For me, it brings back so many memories and good feelings. I would watch every day with my grandpa, and long after his death, I remember those times spent with him every time I watch. Every TAGS show has so many good messages built in. It's such a great throw-back to when times were slow and peaceful, you could trust your neighbors, and everyone knew everyone. A lot of times I wish those times existed now. OK, as far as rating and reviewing the TAGS collection: It's wonderful! Having every episode ever made, in addition to the rare "Return to Mayberry", is a blessing. Out of all the DVD collections I own, this one is watched the most. If you like TAGS, you'll LOVE this collection. Sure, it's expensive... but it's worht every penny. Also, on last note about TAGS: Many people may not know this either, but TAGS is the ONLY show (with the exception of soaps and game shows) in TV history to have been on the air since its debut in 1960. The only sitcom to have NEVER been of the air. After it ended in 1968, it has been run in syndicate every day in the U.S. for the past 40 years. Wow, that's an amzzing feat! Grab this one... you'll LOVE it!Read full review
I recently bought The Andy Griffith Show - The Complete Series(2007,DVD) here on eBay. It includes the pilot episode that aired as an episode of Make Room for Daddy. It also includes an episode of Gomer Pyle,U.S.M.C, the Return to Mayberry movie from 1988 and the original sponsor spots for the 2nd and 3rd seasons. I allready had the 3rd season set that is sold individually. The only thing I do not like about the The Complete Series set is there are no episode descriptions like the individual season sets have. I am so used to reading the episode description it feels like something is missing. I was suprised to see how small the box set actually is. It is smaller than it looks in the picture. The packaging folds up to take up less room. The Andy Griffith Show is one of the best family shows ever made. There will never be another one like it. I am very happy with my purchase. Overall I highly recommend this to everyone.Read full review

Andy Griffith is a classic that every family today can benefit from owning. It teaches great moral responsibility and character that we lose from the shallow television shows today. They just don't make TV shows like this anymore.

Andy Griffith has been 1 of the longest running series on TV. I have watched it for as long as I can remember. They almost feel like family since I've had them in my home on the TV for so long. This is a good ole fashion TV series with lots of humor to it. This is one of the best TV series there is. I highly recommend to everyone. Its a fantastic price for all the hours of watching you will be getting. And best of all; you can watch when you want , as you want. You do not have to wait for it to come on TV.

We are very happy with the box set. The video quality is very clear, all intro and credit like the original shows. No commercials! And the box and video sleeve folders, episode titles, and graphics on the boxes are done nice. Good product.

This collection is great if you are an Andy fan! It is amazing when you watch the episodes how much is cut out for extra commercials on TV Land or your local station. It does make it frustrating when you go back and watch on TV and know what's missing, though. I had one of these myself, and I bought this one for my pastor for Christmas. At the end of each Sunday service, he has a trivia question for me, and I have one for him. It makes for good clean fun...buy it, you'll love it!
I grew up in rural north carolina, in a little town outside of Charlotte called Pineville. NC. This was one of those little towns that had one police officer who was very similar to Andy. Pineville had the lake identical to the one that barney and andy were at when the criminal escaped and stole andys boat that sank when he was about 1/3 the way out and swam back and andy got him then.. my town was just so much like that and i grew up there back in the early 1960s when Andy first came on TV. My twin brother and myself had our own private room down in the basement of our home and we watched every episoode of andy Griffith and Barney and we loved them so much. there will never be another show like that.. that was an era gone by that can never be replaced, ever. i bought the whole collection last year and my wife and i have enjoyed watching every one of them and i love them as they take me back to my youth.. it is really sad to think back then and look what we are viewing on tv today. thats what is wrong with our youth today. they are missing that one element that they desperately need and that is closeness and discipline with fathers and moms.. we have let that slip in the cracks and have forgotten about virtue and family values. but thats another story.. all in all i will give this series 2 thumbs up and 5 stars. it just doesnt get any better. oh how i miss those days..for shame for shame for shame!!Read full review
This is a great series, all eight seasons. The last three years were in color. Most oldie TV stations do not re-broadcast the color episodes. The color shows are definitely worth watching, they definitely complete the Mayberry experience. It's best to buy the complete DVD series, the 40-Disc set.
