Yes I'm a guy but I really loved this show. I started watching when nothing else was on and really got caught up in the story. It's very engaging and all the characters are very well written. This series season one shows you how the mom and her daughter came to live in the small town. You also get to know each of the characters one by one and their interactions with each other. I really enjoyed the mom's humor which came in handy sometimes while her daughter was having typical teenage problems. What I liked most was the story takes place in a small town, there was no cursing, no violence, etc just some wholesome entertainment for the whole family. In a world where all TV is filled nothing but vulgar language, violence, magic, demons, etc, it's nice to have a show like this to watch. If you have kids it's definitely safe to watch with them. It will be a nice break from the other crap that is on TV now days. I highly recommend it. Read full review

My daughter likes Gilmore Girls so I purchased it for her. My own opinion is that this show is complete fantasy. It is a world where the mother and daughter eat copious amounts of junk food and candy but stay ultra thin, where they eat all their meals out and spend, spend, spend but can afford a million dollar century home, where the mother seems to almost never be at work yet is the manager of a business, a world where the "ex" is buddy=buddy with the mother, still engaging in a sexual relationship with her. This show is a soap opera for young women that, quite frankly, teaches many bad lessons such as binge eating when depressed and lack of commitment in relationships.

Everyone that loves the "Gilmore girl's", or that wants to get into the series, needs to have the first set of DVD's. This set is the foundation of the series. It explains how Loralie the mother comes to live in "Stars Hollow" and how she left a rich controlling home life with her parents because of being pregnant with Rory. And how this little town becomes a safe haven filled with small town charm where everyone knows thier neighbors. And begins explaining the bond between the mother and the daughter which only grows stronger with each season. It has a very fast paced humor, filled with trivia in each and every line. As the season one ends, it just makes you want more.
I bought the entire series for my daughter, Terry, because she always loved the show. I waited until the 5th seasons came out, and bought all five. It took us several nights and days to watch them before she headed back to college, but we did it, and will never forget the moments together. I've always made fun of the Gilmore Girls shows, and balked everytime she wanted to watch it. But, she asked me to watch the DVD's with her when she was home from college, and by golly, I fell in love with that show! When that show comes on now it represents one of the best times of our lives. Don't begin 5 if you haven't seen 1-4; you have to see series one and all the rest for each to make sense. We haven't watch the new season, but will purchase it when the DVD's are out and watch them together, again over college vacation. My son watched a few with us, and said, "don't tell anyone, but I like these shows too!" lol. Gilmore girls is a wonderful show. There are things about each character with which we can all identify. Lorelei is my favorite, and I wish sometimes I could've been like her, able to speak out when someone is inflicting their demands/wishes on her; as a matter of fact, it has helped me to speak up when someone is in "my space" when they shouldn't be. The only character I have not warmed up to, is the employee at the hotel, Michel. His accent sounds fake, and his character is too whinny. Rory is a favorite as well as Paris. Paris is probably one of my fav's, as you know where she stands on everything. She appears strong, but is indeed weak, and needs friends. I think if I had to say there is anything about the show that I would change it is the characters that sleep together, without benefit of marriage.Read full review
In okay shape, about half of the discs have pretty good scratches on them.

I was introduced to Gilmore Girls less than a year ago and after watching only part of one season, decided I had to own all of them. It seems as if TV today is all stupid humor, blood and guts, reality, or just boring. Not Gilmore Girls. The show is built around the relationship between a mother and daughter and their relationships with others. Each character is endearing and makes you want to live in Stars Hollow. Season one introduces you to characters you'll grow to love and want to see more of. Excellent writing and intelligent humor will get you involved and the characters will make you hooked. I'm 35 and love it. The girl who introduced me to Gilmore Girls is 21 and recently, my 62 year old mother became hooked!!! Obviously wonderful for all ages, this is undoubtedly the best show on TV!!!!Read full review
People often mistake Independence Inn's manager, headstrong single mom Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) and her equally willful teenage daughter, Rory (Alexis Bledel) for sisters. Lorelai and Rory cope with the same emotional ups and downs, including Lorelai's overbearing, old-money parents and the joys and frustrations of the male gender. But when Rory's attention turns from dreams of private school and Harvard to thoughts of boys and adolescent self-reliance, single mom Lorelai begins noticing more of her own rebellious youth-only 16 years ago-in Rory. This heartfelt, humorous drama appeals to young and old alike with its blend of traditional family issues and hip, contemporary attitude. Reacquaint yourselves with television's most appealing mother-daughter duo in this collectible six-disc DVD set, which contains all 21 episodes from the first season including the pilot episode. Easy television viewing will go away soon. What those of us do who don't have satellite, or cable, or cannot afford them? Let's face it, the internet is less expensive than almost anything. I have an answer and it isn't even mine. Various DVD manufacturers have found a niche (as did the actors, authors, producers, etc.) in DVD sales of our favorite television shows. Guess what, we can always view them when we want to and not at the network's time. Gilmore girls is a fast paced, serious comedy that blends the quirks and eccentricities of small town living with the issues of teens, parents, and grand parents. The humor come from a small town (Star's Hollow)and the people living there. The serious drama brings us into the lives of the main characters Lorilai and Rory. You'll have to play back several times to get it all. A must addition to your libraryRead full review
The loving and quirky relationship of mother Lorelei and daughter Rory Gilmore was best realized during this first season. Smart scripts. Smart characters, Smart acting. But everyone got more neurotic as the series progressed (except, perhaps, for Dean).

I became a big fan of the Gilmore Girls a few year ago. The dialog and plot lines are always interesting and true to life. Whereas one will not often meet someone like Lorilei or Rory in real life, the show "keeps it real". They face everyday problems and triumph. I would say I am able to identify with most aspects of their lives except the wealthy parents. If you like a story about strong, intelligent and even stubborn women, you will enjoy the Gilmore Girls. I bought this set because my daughter requested it as a Christmas gift and the price was right. Yes, I checked out other prices at local retail stores and couldn't believe the savings I found here at EBAY.
