Dog on Fleas' 8th record is a return to their tried and true recording style of simply playing songs in a room and capturing the feel of the band having a blast and making genuine uproarious music. The boys get a little rowdy now and then, but there is lyrical and musical depth and beauty to be found as well. Most of the songs feature just piano, bass and drums, augmented at times by trombone, saxes, theremin, bassoon, and other sundry instruments. Grammy award winning producer and band leader Dean Jones wrote most of the songs, but there are a few unusual song selections as well. The Grand March from Aïda, by Giuseppe Verdi, is one of 3 tracks recorded with an augmented ragtag band, recorded out in a field at night, with cricket and car ambience. Dog on Fleas have been making music for kids and families since 1999, and it shows in the simultaneous tightness and looseness of the band's performances and creative and evocative songwriting. The band has garnered Parent's Choice Gold and NAPPA awards, as well as being chosen as the #1 band on the School Library Journal's list of 12 CDs You Can't Live Without. The set of DVDs are in excellent condition and an ex-library copy. The seller professionally had the discs checked and cleaned, and said so, which is very helpful. The package came quickly and the Post Office was able to deliver it during a big snow. I am very happy to get a copy of this show at a reasonable price.
