Don't waste your time reading reviews comparing this knife to "the old version". This knife is a well-made knife.
I find that the attention to detail and the construction and assembly of my particular knife is very impressive. I can find no flaws in the finish of the blade, handle or sheath. Forget about those bigots who bash anything made overseas (Taiwan,China) just because it's not made here anymore. This is fine example of a Ka-Bar skinner and an excellent value. Buy it! I love mine!

What happened to Kabar?
I bought this knife to replace the same knife that I lost in our move. My dad bought it for me to carry for hunting in 2002 or 2003. I’ve owned many kabars over the years and have come to expect great quality from them. I was really disappointed in the overall quality and fit and finish of the newer knife. This knife is made in Taiwan, not the USA. The steel of the blade seems thinner than my old one, the handle feels smaller. The band under the guard has staining and discoloring. At the neck of the pommel you can see the pin that runs through the tang which my old one didn’t. The sheath is the worst quality I’ve ever seen on a kabar knife. The leather has wrinkles and the stitching doesn’t run all the way down and the rivet that was almost at the point is moved back further on this one ... I bought this knife to replace the same knife that I lost in our move. My dad bought it for me to carry for hunting in 2002 or 2003. I’d recommend this knife to someone not familiar with kabars because I’m sure it’ll serve its purpose but I would not recommend this knife to those familiar with this brand because it is lower quality than the old ones.

Top of the line
This is the top of the line in skinning knives. As an avid deer hunter this knife has given me the control that I need for gutting and skinning deer and smaller game, and a super sharp blade that hasn't needed sharpening yet. If your looking for a great skinning knife this is the one you want.
